    My 40th Thread...Linux Life

I stopped the distro hop after I started using MX-Linux about 4 years ago and so far its been rock solid for me. I hope you can solve any remaining issues.

    Wellesley Fund

Since Wellesley is 60-65% LT bonds it would seem logical that its performance after the 2023 bond debacle may tend to revert to its long term performance in the vicinity of 6-8% unless long term rates continue to increase at the pace of the recent past. Lets also remember that in the debacle of...

    Ancient laptop

Same here, I would happily ditch windows completely for Linux but I have to keep a windows machine just to do taxes once a year - and I don't really want to do my taxes with the web versions so I'm stuck - I use Linux machines for everything else.

    Medicare advantage plan

Medicare Advantage plans are great as long as you don't get old and seriously ill. I have a serious chronic illness that requires many medical interventions from many specialties. People with Advantage plans report incredible levels of difficulties in getting approvals for needed treatments...

    What was your WR YTD

Wow, as always I'm amazed at the creativity of the members of this forum -121 varying responses on how to calculate withdrawal rate from ones portfolio reminds me of the old joke about the accountant answering the question of 2+2 =? "what do you want it be?" For the record, my withdrawal rate %...

    Your Favorite 2023 Purchase?

I'm really happy with my Fosi V3 amplifier powering my Magneplanar 1.7 speakers. I was able to find it for $90.00 at Walmart with the 48 volt 5 amp power supply and it sounds quite amazing.

    Aggressively Rebalancing Now

I'm old enough to remember "the nifty fifty". If memory serves that did not end well. Any similarities between the magnificent 7 and the nifty fifty are strictly coincidental I'm sure.

    I Hate Computers

The Dell laptops I bought directly from Dell _they have a refurbished section in their website. The HP desktops from ebay refurbishers. The inexpensive ones usually come with Win 10 installed in an old fashioned mechanical hard drive. I just take it out or relegate to secondary hd and just...

    I Hate Computers

I've found that the refurbished business class Dell and HP laptops and PC computers hold up really well. and are so cheap that its really hard to pass them up. I have two Dell Laptops and 2 HP desktop PC's all running perfectly for a long time. BTW I also run Linux so the "upgrade" issue with...

    Another Vanguard problem

I changed my IRA and taxable accounts to brokerage about 1 month ago. It took me maybe 5 minutes (the screens were very easy to complete) and I really haven't noticed any issues to report. Maybe I'm missing something but so far it seems about as painless as it gets for this sort of thing.

I think Tycho crater of 2001 movie fame is somewhere in the vicinity. Hope all goes well :)

    Electric Vehicles - Models Discussion

It would be very neat if the time shifting issues for wind and solar generation are largely solved by having a vast fleet of mobile batteries :)
