Poll: Whos is in favor of a single payer Health Care System?

I've only ever lived with universal health care (Canada) and as such am wholly unqualified to comment on the cost or care effectiveness of the current American system. What I have noticed though is reading thread after thread about the ins and outs of budgeting for American health insurance in...

    Multiple Sclerosis vs My DW

As you can imagine, PPMS is our greatest fear as my wife's aunt has moved from RRMS into SPMS (secondary progressive) which if I understand correctly, is really similar to your DB's condition, and has switched to a much accelerated and aggressive form of MS. Saskatchewan does indeed share the...

    Multiple Sclerosis vs My DW

To those who have offered to communicate directly with DW, your kindness is deeply appreciated. Eventually we also hope to help any newly diagnosed or even those bracing for a diagnosis. We have the dubious distinction of living in the epicenter of MS. Alberta, Canada has far and away the...

    Multiple Sclerosis vs My DW

This I really incredible to me. I thought that MS was such a rarity that almost nobody would have known much about it, let alone had it directly affect their own lives. Thank you all for the encouragement, advice, and offerings of help. In terms of how it affects FIRE, well, of course that...

    Multiple Sclerosis vs My DW

Got some life altering news 2 weeks ago. While my DW still needs an MRI for 100% confirmation, the neurologist has told us that she strongly suspects MS. The point of this post isn't to host a pity party though. We are of course still somewhat in shock/grief mode, but I think we are finally...

What Did Your Offspring Do Today?

My 15yr old daughter just won gold at the Canadian National Fencing Championships in the under 17 womens category.

A Bad Economy is A Terrible Thing to Waste

Just thought that I'd add that if anyone is having a tough time finding decent paying jobs, there are help wanted signs everywhere in Alberta, Canada in the oilfield sector, as well as retail, law enforcement etc etc but the bulk are directly tied to oilfield. Welders start @$34-$37/hr +...

A Bad Economy is A Terrible Thing to Waste

The "crash" paid off huge for my business partner and I. We rent industrial equipment mostly to oil companies. All of the big publicly traded rental companies were selling off assets at auction and there was such a glut of equipment that machines that currently sell for $35k were routinely...

    Unicycle for core and cardio

Wow, that's impressive, very cool! Now is probably a good time to mention that anyone learning (or making their first attempt in 30 yrs) should really consider a bike helmet, gloves, wrist guards, and knee pads.

    Unicycle for core and cardio

Actually, mountain unicycling or "Muni" is gaining in popularity. There are clubs dedicated to it. One is about 3hrs from me. There are specially designed unicycles for that purpose and they can go pretty much anywhere a mountain bike can, and even a few where you couldn't take a mountain bike...

    Unicycle for core and cardio

My small business is growing so about 8 months ago I moved myself from a position where I performed quite a lot of duties requiring physical coordination to a more sedate supervisory role (desk jockey). Though I workout 4 times/week, and am quite "fit", my agility level had taken a serious nose...

    Snow shoveling rates

Tell the kid that regardless of when or how much it snows, you'll give him $250 now, and if the snow is always shoveled in less than a day each time it snows, there's another $250 waiting for him in the spring.

    The suspense is killing me

Bummer about the crummy offer, but at least the offer was so ridiculous that it could be dismissed quickly and allow you to get back to work. I guess it's too late now, but as someone who has been through this a few times I'd advise you to not bother getting your lawyer or accountant involved...

    The suspense is killing me

Don't despair, you've probably figured out by now that there are a lot of people involved in M&A in a big public company. They all need to rubber stamp the deal, and their vacation times and other distractions WILL stretch things out. It's part of the culture of the big slow moving corporation...
