    Blow that Dough 2023

We booked a non-refundable AirBNB for a month in Mazatlan. Apparently they arrested some drug lord and the cartel isn't happy. The airport is closed due to all the fires they set. We leave 4 weeks from today. The last time we travelled internationally was Mazatlan for a month in March 2020!

    Two comma club

Do Canadian dollarettes count? No idea when we crossed the line overall, but it was last December that we hit 1MM in investments last December (ages 56 & 53). We celebrated with a couple of $12 steaks and a $12 dollar bottle of champagne.

Poll: Does a Pension factor into your FIRE Plans?

Yes, more than 25% My defined benefit non cola'd Telco (don't hate me!) pension will give ~40% of our initial retirement funds, with our investments giving us another 50% and the rest from the (Canadian) government. Hopefully class of 2019.

    Olympic Penninsula travel plan

"Does it make more sense to see Victoria from Port Angeles or from Vancouver. On the map, it looks much closer to Port Angeles." You could do a circle route. If you've seen everything on the peninsula, drive onto the Coho in Port Angeles, see Victoria and drive half an hour to the ferry to...

    Electric turkey fryer

Anyone use an electric turkey fryer? We are hosting a dinner for 4 couples in a couple of weeks and are going to deep fry a turkey. After watching all the exploding turkey videos on Utube, I bought a new electric fryer on Craigslist. From what I've read, the downside to an electric fryer is...

Why I prefer Cuba to Mexico or Dominican Republic as a holiday destination

Have you tried Huatulco? We are not travelers yet, but plan to be in retirement. For now owning a boat is the one vice we can afford while saving for retirement. Last year we went with 3 other couples (boating friends) and rented a villa in Huatulco, Mexico for a week and then my wife & I...
