Latest BS on yahoo about retirement

Agree that the numbers in the article are a little ridiculous, but obviously the take-away the author was really going for was the order of magnitude change in savings needed per month when the starting age is the only variable.

The "Father" of 4% SWR doesn't recommend it...

With all of the unknowns over such a long time period how can he possibly recommend a change of 0.1%? There can't possibly be a statistically significant difference to the distribution of outcomes of 4% versus 4.1% when you run a simulation with so many unknowns, it's absurd to even recommend...

What would you do? (warrantee issue)

Thanks for all of the replies, they were all pretty much in line with what I was thinking. Don't worry, I'm going to stick with my initial intent of sending a very civil letter to both companies of interest explaining my displeasure both with the outcome, but also with the lack of a middle...

What would you do? (warrantee issue)

I agree that even the best products can have some that fail early. I'm more disapointed that they aren't offering me ANYTHING. Seems kinda silly to blow off someone who still has another 5-6 mower purchases, let alone other small engine purchases.

What would you do? (warrantee issue)

I have recently found myself in a warrantee dispute with a certain US manufacturer of lawn mower engines and I just wanted to get a feel for what other people would do in my situation. Some background info: I am a 28yo first time home owner. Purchased a new Toro self-propelled mower last...

    Purchase of Rental House

Just curious, but I am assuming these buildings were flips given the fairly short time between sales. Do you know how much money went into them to update them? I know you're just using ballpark numbers but I have to imagine that the carrying cost for 1 year on a 1.2MM mortgage (plus...

I was just reading an article on CNNmoney: West Virginia teachers vote on pensions versus 401(k)s - May. 20, 2008 On this poll alone we have had almost half the people respond that they have a pensions. I find it [-]amusing[/-] scary that the people who are probably best off in terms of...

Pension Plans in Corporate America for those 40 and under

I realize this is only a handful of responses but it sure does not seem as dire as the media makes it out to be. Thanks to everyone for their replies. I'll mkae sure to check back later to see if more response appear. Oh yeah, the 40 thing just seemed like a good cut-off to separate the...

Pension Plans in Corporate America for those 40 and under

Every story I read online about financial/retirment planning seems to talk about how rare corporate pensions are nowadays and that most companies provide the matching 401k option instead. According to the stories, the company I work for seems to be an exception to the rule since they have both...

My significant other refuses to go into Walmart, she will only go to Target. If we ever need something in a hurry (Walmart is closer) she sends me out to go get it.
