Questions about insurance, subsidies, ACA, etc

Thank you all for the quick responses! This is exactly the feedback & insights I was looking for. As I mentioned above, healthcare costs are the big wildcard for us and many others on the FIRE journey. I've planned for the worst but hopefully can take advantage of subsidies starting in...

Questions about insurance, subsidies, ACA, etc

Hi there, like the OP I'm starting to strongly consider pulling the plug in the April-May timeframe next year and have a couple of related questions.....(apologies if this is too repetitive but I'm just now starting to seriously roll up my sleeves on the transition plan and health insurance is...

Fixed Income portfolio allocation, 401k options dilemma

Varies by plan. I cannot on mine except for a smaller portion that was an original rollover from a prior employer. Everything else has to stay put.

Fixed Income portfolio allocation, 401k options dilemma

Thanks Pb4uski - I appreciate you sharing your quick insights and I'll certainly dive deeper into the muni bond thread. I've learned a ton from everyone here over the past 16+ years and (unfortunately but unsurprisingly) fixed income has been a bit of a smaller black box I haven't dug into...

Fixed Income portfolio allocation, 401k options dilemma

Hi all, like many others last year I pulled the trigger and exited my 401k's bond fund and have been rebuilding via its money market fund - which of course has been doing fine since. I'm staying the course for now as it looks like there's no rush but I am starting to wonder what I and likely...

    Leaf Blower Recommendation

+1 on the EGo blower and products. Have the mower, blower, and chainsaw and love them all. Will add others as gas powered versions need replacing

I think Vanguard Just Called Me Difficult and Expensive

Thanks. This is what I suspected and as I’m too lazy to make updates on my automatic paycheck deposits I’m going to stick with the older platform for a bit longer. Hopefully that won’t be a factor too much longer :coolsmiley:

I think Vanguard Just Called Me Difficult and Expensive

I've also been holding off on the account transition to brokerage. Mostly because I haven't been forced or taken the time to read about it more thoroughly. One key question/concern I had is if it would change my account numbers or do anything that might require more work for automatic...

    Input From Tesla Owners?

I looked at this kind of a retractable solution briefly and found it might work but would be best if the plug was on the ceiling like in many workshops and commercial garages. You can find similar for normal electrical extension cords that are also handy. I installed one of those from Amazon...

Have You Upsized Your TV Recently?

We did the same from Costco with extended 5yr warranty included free during BLack Friday. Entire family loves the new OLED set and yes it weighs less than our 9 yr old Samsung 65”. Amazing. Highly recommend for anyone in the market :coolsmiley:

    Twitter Employees Resigning

Probably difficult to answer without knowing more specifics but if Twitter goes completely under would Elon be positioned to take advantage of a massive capital loss in his taxes? He does have a healthy gain on the other side of his portfolio.

Sell bond index funds at a loss in order to buy CDs?

Thanks. The maximum loan I can take out is $50k which is a helpful feature but not significant enough to make an impact to my current situation and effectively (I believe) would be the same as buying CDs/bonds from my separate taxable account. The money market option isn't horrible with ~60...

Sell bond index funds at a loss in order to buy CDs?

I am in a similar boat. I sold my 401k bond fund last month to stop the bleeding and put it all into a MM fund. Not the same as CDs and a bit off topic but I don't have other fixed income options in my 401k choices or the ability to rollover to an IRA to expand my choices. I feel like the...

401K - timing move from stable fund back to bond fund

I’m also in this situation. Most of our 20% bond allocation is my entire 401k in a bond fund and no option of in-service rollover other than a tiny slice of a former 401k rollover from 20yrs ago. My fixed income investment options to change are limited to a short-duration bond fund (2-3 yr vs...
