Update on Cord Cutting (Cable TV) - 2021 version

You may have already heard of this but another library provider is Kanopy. My own library gives us access to both Hoopla and Kanopy. Kanopy is less clunky when selecting and playing than Hoopla. There is good content on both.

    The massive Russian hack/data breach

Around 140 million of us had our personal data stolen from Equifax a few years ago. Not to mention business hacks stealing credit card info for years. What's a mystery is why any of us have any faith that our data or money is safe with anyone. I await the day when I log on to a retirement...

There must be a tremendous amount of profit for vendors of Medicare Advantage Plans!

You still have to pay for Part B. If anyone thinks they are able to get those benefits and someone doesn't pay I have a bridge for sale I want to interest you in. Stockholders and executives have to be satisfied. The advantage plans are costing taxpayers more than traditional Medicare and...

    Notice a Change in Tone?

The first 3 minutes of this episode of This American Life podcast discusses that very thing and it is thought provoking. https://www.thisamericanlife.org/700/embiggening

Do you think Dow 18,000 was the bottom?

They've been warning us for a few decades. There was a plan that was ignored not that that would have stopped it but it should have helped.

Frugal living trend associated with ER

We met Glenn a few years ago and at the time he was in an old VW van that he had done extensive work on. It was impressive. We boondocked near each other once and we enjoyed hearing him playing his sax. He does have a presence on Instagram. You can find it here...

    Final retirement area

If you like bugs and humidity you will enjoy Florida. Then there are the evacuations for hurricanes. You are probably used to humidity though. Seriously though, if you live in a city the bugs are usually controlled. We lived in a suburb across the street from the guy that ran the mosquito...

Frugal living trend associated with ER

We retired in our mid to late '50s. We could have kept our house which had been paid off years before but we didn't think we wanted to continue living where we were. We sold everything and moved into a 30' motorhome and we have just finished over 10 years on the road. We enjoy public lands and...

    HSA answer for Lemming

Sorry to post this here but Lemming asked me a question about an HSA in another thread which has been closed and he isn't signed up for PM. So hopefully, you get this. Since I retired prior to qualifying for medicare and have a HDHP I still qualify for an HSA. I had been trying to get a...

Appreciate your response. As I said I generally don't jump into threads the first day I sign on to a forum. However, since I didn't see the info I provided anywhere else and thought it useful I decided to plow ahead. I can see from some of the commentary on this thread that there are many folks...

So that was my error. Thanks. I am a member of numerous forums and had not run into that before. Well, I retired early in 2008. Started investing in 1984. Maintained the buy and hold plan through all of the bubbles until this last debacle. Didn't totally get out of equities but fortunately got...

Oh, I see. Apparently, when you are new to this forum one should sit back and say nothing for some period of time for fear of being branded a troll. Of course, I am not familiar with the history of the rest of you folks so for all I know this is how you respond to new members. The problem is...

Was this directed at me? If so, I joined today after finding some answers to a question I had regarding HSAs. Just another person interested, in my case, in staying retired. I'm not shilling for anyone. By the way what is MMND?

If you want to consider CD's I would suggest you do your research at someplace like depositaccounts.com I found them to have reliable information and good search tools. I am considering a CD ladder now for cash. Ally Bank rates are not the best but they have a 60 day early withdrawal penalty...
