30 yrs at my career and about 4 yrs of part-time work while in school. Retired at 51 when offered a voluntary layoff ;D

$1M @46 counting home equity, @50 if only counting investable assets. $2M @53 counting home equity, @54 (this year) if only counting investable assets. Retired ~3 yrs ago at 51. Single, No kids.

Don't forget that the assets could be subject to an adult child's divorce if you do this. A better idea is to put the assets in trust and make the child a co-trustee with the parent as beneficiary.
