Did You Move Where You Did Not Know Anyone?

We've moved "many" times over the years ... from Delaware to NJ to Maryland, back to Delaware, to Virginia, and then to two different places in Florida. Each time, with the exception of the Delaware moves, we knew absolutely no one in the area. That changed quickly but we found (and it makes...

    Healthcare.gov password

So....I understand that the Heartbleed bug caused the healthcare.gov website to need to reset passwords. But, for the past week, I get an email a day, every day, letting me know that they've reset ,my password ..... Again. How many times do they think it needs to happen and can't these guys...

    Ongoing Health Insurance Fun!

So ... I was one of the lucky ones who was able to successfully work through the ACA Website to purchase coverage --- made it thru in mid-October. Since then, while the coverage is in place and has been used, getting through the "stuff" has been a royal pain. Made the first payment in October...

What's Your Non-Equity Portfolio Look Like?

In my non-equity, I have about 80% in individual long term corporate bonds that I acquired during the mass downturn a few years ago. The average maturity is in the late 2020's (with a couple going out to 2040) and an average coupon of just under 7% non-callable. They were all acquired at a...

How Many Here Have Experienced a Sustained Net Portfolio Decrease Since Retiring?

I've been gone for more than 2 years and still ahead but had planned a significant reduction at the time I retired. Effectively I am $100,000 ahead of where my plan called for me to be. Dumb luck, to a degree, because of the stock market rise. My positions are heavily in corporate bonds...

    Bearish Call?

Do a quick google search and you'll see that, back in 2011, he was also predicting a decent start to 2012 but then as much as a 60% drop after that. No idea who he is but it sounds like he's out there somewhere. There are those who regularly predict the end of the world but, after a few...

    ACA Enrollment Questions

I was able to register and enroll this morning onto the BCBS website ..... Was able to select a primary care physician. Everything seems to be 100% in good shape! It worked!

Were you successful in the ACA signup

So ... I was able to register and login to the BCBS website this morning, select a primary care physician. Everything appears to be working just fine.

    Cost Sharing Reduction

Just a thought .... Since there are no actual penalties for "under-estimating" income, wouldn't it be considered somewhat smart to do so, expecting to true things up when tax filing occurs? Effectively, isn't that pretty much the same as an interest free loan from the government for a years...

    ACA Enrollment Questions

I already did with the same issue. The policy doesn't go into effect until January 1st and the website won't allow registration until that time. Supposedly, it'll be good to go as of the 1st.

Were you successful in the ACA signup

I enrolled on October 17th ... Billing was received in early November and immediately paid. Received insurance cards (first set) last week and then, this past Tuesday, received another identical set.

Did You Have Health Insurance Prior to Signing Up With an Exchange?

Yes ... Had insurance. Employer provided for many years prior to ER then COBRA and then the hell of private coverage for 10 months where my premiums skyrocketed to over $1900 per month due to pre existing conditions (DW had breast cancer in 2003 and I suffered a neck injury in 2009). New...

Successful ACA sign up - Florida

Insurance cards arrived Friday and the BCBS paperwork all arrived on Saturday. I guess it's official .... This ER saves $1300 per month for improved coverage. Of course, somewhere, someone is paying significantly more so that I can have this benefit so it's kind of a bittersweet moment.

    ACA sign Up

So I was able to actually enroll during October and paid the initial premium (thru a BCBS billing) by the end of that month. In mid November, we received a letter from BCBS to my DW indicating enrollment and "assigning" a primary care physician. I called to inquire about "me" and to ask how...
