How many DIY Investors Do You Know

We grow our own, always have. We B&H. We started buying stocks in 1975. We held, held and held some more. Through ups and downs. Never sold until after retirement when we started taking out small amounts to supplement a pension and SS. Our very hard work through the years and our buy and hold...

    I Can Not Believe It

Thank you all for your kind words. Someone wrote that it was like waiting on Christmas to arrive. That is exactly how I feel. Take care!

    I Can Not Believe It

25 days to go. After 35 years of full time work I have only 25 days to go before I retire. I'm not exactly retiring early - I'm 64 and my wife is 63. Also, we are not exactly wealthy but we have been saving for retirement since we were married, a little each month, every month for more than 43...

How much time per day (or week) do you spend on financial 'stuff'?

I spend 1 hour at the end of month each putting together our financial report for my wife and I to review. I might buy a WSJ several times a week. On occasion, I check in with this forum and the Bogle forum. I have been a Buy and Hold type of guy for the last 40 years. In general, I feel that...

    Money Making Hobbies

MMH >Yeah, that's why I wouldn't really do it. In order to be able to make something like carving work, you'd have to find a way to "mass" produce them. The same thing over and over wouldn't be fun. And then there's the selling part. .< Hi all, I'm just getting caught up reading this...

    Money Making Hobbies

Money Making Hobby I have one. 35 years ago I got a double degree: 1) Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and 2) Fine Art. I have working as an engineer since but I never gave up my art, working it on my time off. Through the years, this interest in art turned into a commercial & fine arts...

    45 is career old age.

Not Me I've worked for a major international oil company for the last 35 years (one the largest in the world). Since the age of 45 I've gotten a raise nearly every two years and several promotions; my salary has increased more than 120% since the age of 45. Several months ago, at the age of...

    On the day you retired...

4 years cash. I started saving for retirement in 1982. It's been a roller coaster for 32 years. I never sold but I always did had cash on hand and still do. Having buffer of cash gave me the courage to look away (and pickup a nice bottle of red) when the market got ugly. Just look away.

    Poll - Monthly allowance

No allowance. We live on $12,000/month and buy whatever is needed. Out of that I spend about $1,000 a month on my hobby (fine art photography).
