    Newbie Here Regarding the ACA

We are planning to keep the retiree dental insurance, so I will have to ask about eligibility to opt back in. Had never even thought of that! Yes, the retiree benefits are pricey, over $13k annually for the both of us, for the medical portion. Thanks for the tip on using the younger person as...

    Newbie Here Regarding the ACA

Yes, understood. Since retirement, we've been pretty good at estimating out our income sources at the beginning of each year, based on our estimated spending needs. So think we are pretty confident we can stay in the right MAGI neighborhood.

    Newbie Here Regarding the ACA

Thanks, this is definitely stuff we will think about. Not sure if we have any PPOs available for our area, but will look into it. So far, we've been looking at a Gold plan HMO. But like you said, no one plans to get seriously ill. Will look had at the in network providers.

    Newbie Here Regarding the ACA

Yes, retiree coverage ends at age 65 when we become Medicare eligible.

    Newbie Here Regarding the ACA

My retirement insurance coverage has a separate dental policy that we plan to keep. That is allowed even when you are 65 and go on Medicare. We are in the process now of looking at the networks, with the hospitals/doctors/urgent care clinics/drugs that are included.

    Newbie Here Regarding the ACA

Hello - a little background first. My husband and I retired in 2018; he was 58, I was 57. We were able to get health insurance from my employer, with them subsidizing the premiums by 40%. Other than that though, we paid the premiums ourselves, it has never been paid by my former employer. We...

Schwab Intelligent Portfolio - Holding My Cash Hostage

Mrfey, I was thinking the same thing, I could replicate the IP myself, and invest the cash.

Schwab Intelligent Portfolio - Holding My Cash Hostage

T-Minus: I am just earning bank interest, about a half of a percent. Just sits in a cash account. All dividends from other investments in the account are also paid in cash, and when the cash account gets to a certain level, a purchase is made automatically. But cash does not dip below around...

Schwab Intelligent Portfolio - Holding My Cash Hostage

We have most of our portfolio with Schwab and are happy with them for the most part. A few years ago, we put some $$ in their Intelligent Portfolio, with a fairly aggressive mix of ETFs, and it has done pretty well over the years. What is becoming more painful as the account grows, is the...

Thoughts on Bullet Share Bond ETFs

Appreciate everyone's perspective, and the link from target2019. Lot of good info there, I will be researching those ETFs. I see one of them was MINT, which njhowie recommended.

Thoughts on Bullet Share Bond ETFs

Thanks for the heads up pbruski. I would stick with CDs if I could get a better rate through Schwab. Highest appears to be 1.8 now. Can get better rates through my on line banks, but don't really want to move this account out of Schwab. I am glad to see others using these bond ETFs.

Thoughts on Bullet Share Bond ETFs

Hello - Retired about a year ago, and rolled my 401k to a Schwab rollover IRA (rest of our portfolio is at Schwab.) My 401K is what we have always thought of as our 'safe' money, meaning we have kept it invested in non-risky, guaranteed return type things. At the time of my rollover, I bought...
