    What was your greatest epiphany?

Everyone here knows this and it was many years ago I figured out “It’s ALWAYS about the money”.

    Texas trip

We have done SA a couple of times, most recently in 2018 and really enjoyed it. Spent 3 days there the first time and 2 days the 2nd. If you drive there’s likely plenty to see along the way. For instance, we got off the interstate from SA to Houston and stopped in Shiner, TX for a tour of the...

    Electric Car poll

Never for me due to limited charging stations where we live and long charging times for traveling. We have a PHEV now and that works well for us.

WSJ article 3/15/22 Part-Time Retirement Programs Are on the Rise

I have done this, but not part of a program. I cut back my hours going from full-time to half-time to a few hours a week and now to a few hours a month. I initiated it and would have fully retired if they wouldn’t have agreed. They want my knowledge and I really like the company and the...

    The Electric Vehicle Thread

We purchased a Jeep Wrangler PHEV in October. We get about 25 miles in electric mode which is enough 95+% of the time. Not too many chargers in fly-over country here so a pure EV would be risky.

BA.2 variant - new study suggests severity concerns

We went back to normal, pre-covid, living about a year ago - after vaccinations. I got Covid a few weeks ago - felt like a bad cold and flu for about 36 hours and we quarantined for full 10 days. Wife did not get it even though we didn’t quarantine from each other. We’ve already taken one...

How Are You Calculating Amount of Risk While Returning to Somewhat Normal?

We haven’t worn masks, except in medical offices, for almost a year. Things are back to normal and have been for some time. Did travel to AZ in January so we had them with us. I think the only place we went that required them was a grocery store.

    Flooring Options

We did dark hardwood everywhere except the bedrooms and it shows dust about 2 hours after vacuuming so we would not do that again. I prefer laminate or luxury vinyl tile because it’s much easier to maintain and any hard surface will hide the dust better with a medium to lighter color.

    Daylight Saving Time Again!

I like daylight saving time, but wish it would become year-around or get rid of it all together. From an article 2 days ago: “more than 40 states are considering changes to end the shifting, and federal lawmakers are weighing legislation that could make daylight saving time permanent. Sen...

    Disturbing occurrence at my gym

It’s best to not intervene, as long as it doesn’t turn physical, as it may just escalate the jerkness of the person being a jerk. Standing by and witnessing is the right thing to do as well as giving support afterwards to those wronged. Hopefully management relieves that woman of her...

How far over your 'number' did you go?

I projected our expenses out till wife is 95 yrs old and also projected income from cash yielding investments, SS, and spending retirement accounts and when amount left over was positive, I was ready to retire (wife already retired). President of our small company (I really like president and...

    Has anyone written their autobiography?

I wrote mine last year for a small audience of 3, my wife, daughter, and son. They enjoyed reading it and maybe someday my grandkids will too.

    inflation -vacation hotels

Although demand is the big reason for higher rates, hotels definitely have higher costs including labor which has doubled from 2019. If they offer breakfast those costs have gone up with inflation just like your grocery bill at home.
