    Big jump in Homeowners insurance

Agreed. We just got a notice of cancellation from our insurance company. They are denying coverage because of a claim that took place 4 years ago. The funny thing is that this claim was on a completely different property, and it was 100% not our fault. Has anybody ever heard of something like this?

Home insurance in Florida is out of control!

SE FL home. Our insurance with All State went up $1K as well, so I cancelled it and found a company that matched the premium from last year. About $2600/year. But I had never heard of this company before, so I am a bit worried. Edison. FL-based company. It was either that or a significantly...

    Big jump in Homeowners insurance

We are in SE FL. Brand new-construction house (less than 2 years old), everything built up to the latest Miami-Dade code, impact windows throughout, concrete-block, no claims, about as far away from the beach as you can possibly get in our county, no-flood area, etc., etc. In other words, as...

$750k in checking accounts- 84yr old- help !

Newbie question. How would you go about purchasing this through Bank Of America? Would it be through Merril Lynch or similar brokerage account? I understood that these would not be FDIC insured, but I would love to learn more. PS: Bank Of America is offering a 3.6% CD. That was the highest I...

Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2022 - Please post updates here

Have always followed this thread with interest. But I have yet to find *any* large bank that offers a CD or savings account with a yield above 0.25%. TD Bank is the only one that offers such a yield, and they have only offered this for the past month or so. All the rest of the banks in our area...

    Homeowners Insurance Increase!?

We paid a little under $3K this year. SE FL. This is actually considered low here, believe it or not. Brand new house with impact windows, etc. Most folks with a comparable property that is 20 years or older are looking at around $7K. And I am sure this will go up next year. One of our other...

Umbrella Policy - To Cancel or not?

Evidently, South FL is quickly becoming the new California.

Umbrella Policy - To Cancel or not?

This is also part of my overall question. We share a single car. I work from home and we rarely go anywhere or have folks over. If I raise my car insurance coverage to $1 Million, would that not be essentially the same as the coverage on the umbrella policy?

Umbrella Policy - To Cancel or not?

That may explain the dramatic difference. We are South. I just got a few other quotes back. Long story short, the umbrella premium could be $300 / year cheaper elsewhere... but the car premium would be $300 more. So everything ends up being almost exactly the same. I think Geico knows this and...

Umbrella Policy - To Cancel or not?

    Where in FL?

Umbrella Policy - To Cancel or not?

Exactly. Nothing like our case. We have none of that. But I did shop around and these rates seem to be the new normal in FL. It is disgusting.

Umbrella Policy - To Cancel or not?

I did. Spoke to 3 different folks. There are no mistakes. The new premium is correct, even though nothing changed. They raised it because they can, but they use new FL insurance regulation changes as an excuse. Yes, fraud is high in this pathetic state, but I doubt that can justify such an increase.

Umbrella Policy - To Cancel or not?

Our umbrella policy went up again. We are in Florida. It was about $200 for many years, which was a no-brainer for $1M coverage, but then it went to $450 in 2020, and now it will be $750 in 2022! No claims, same coverage. And we only have one car and nothing else. Absolutely insane. They...
