    Jan 2008 damage poll

Oops, I'm actually only down 3% for January, I had forgotten to update prices for one of the investments. I'm down about 6.5% from my high in June of 2007. Kate

    What version of Quicken ?

I'm in Canada so our versions are different than in the US. I had been using Deluxe 2002 but had to upgrade last year to XG 2007 in order to be able to update investment prices automatically. After a few years Intuit stops supporting the older versions for the investment price updates, and I...

    salary increase

I got 19% but I only started just over two years ago in an entry position for new university grads so the increases are higher initially. I'm in accounting. I figure 10-14% next year and then it will level off a bit. Kate

    Frugality Hall Of Fame

I've been cutting hubby's hair for 7 or 8 years. We bought a little kit that came with an instruction video for about $40. I run the #2 over his head and then use the shears with no guard for the neck area. Saves about $10-12 bucks every 3 or 4 weeks.

    Government accounting vs. Big 4

There are options other than Big 4 or government. I've been working for two years since graduation and I'm with a midsize firm. The work life balance is much more reasonable and the pay not much different.

    Where were you at 31?

In 2001 I was 31 and hubby 34. We had about $95K in RRSPs and $55K equity in our house. We started putting money into RRSPs in 1990 ($1000) and bought our house in 1998. Now, 6 years later, we have about $275K in investments and $200K equity in our house.

    Mom of four from Canada

Oh, I know all about the "pay off the mortgage" debate and I'm fully willing to admit that it's a strictly emotional decision and not necessarily the best financial/economic decision. But I just can't wait to be completely debt free. We've also been maxing our RRSP's as first priority and doing...

    Mom of four from Canada

Hi all, I'm 37, married with four kids ages 9 to 14 and just started working two years ago after being a stay at home mom. I'm an accountant from Ontario. We are planning for RE in about 9 years when we hope to have $1M in investments. Just a little over a quarter of the way so far, but most of...

How distant is your FIRE date?

I'm planning around June 2016. Hubby will be almost 50 and I will be 46. Lots can happen between now and then so we will see. Kate
