60, I could retire FERS at this time

There are no custodial fees to manage my IRA (formerly TSP) or rollover fees of 4%? I don't know where you found that nonsense. I rolled my TSP into a self directed IRA at Schwab. No cost. Every penny I had in TSP arrived in my IRA. I manage my investment and bought low cost ETFs. I could...

    Vanguard vs. others

I think any brokerage you select and are happy with will be good. Just make sure you find the lowest fees you can or ones that you are comfortable with. I use Schwab and I and my parents have been with them for many years. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where Charles Schwab is...

2014 retired FED and going to retire FEDs...

Is your Pension (18K) after taxes and deductions or before? Having your house paid for is a plus, but you probably have insurance and property taxes. Have you done up a budget to see what you spend monthly and compared that with what you will make monthly when retired? I think your...

Welcome 1Vertical. Wow, your agency accepted a medical slip not to work more than 40 hrs? I don't that would fly in my former agency as I suspect it would conflict with the Union/Management agreement on OT. I have been retired over a year now and don't miss the shift work and OT I did over...

    Betterment

Vanguard does the same if you go for a "Personal Advisor Service." The Service will recommend that you establish a new money market fund, or designate an existing money market fund, to facilitate cash flow into and out of the managed accounts, herein defined as a “Spending Fund.” If you...

    Considering 72t

You might want to go to the 72t.net website and post your question. I am doing a 72T, but not with a ROTH conversion. One thing to remember, when you start a 72T it must run until you are 59 1/2 or for 5 years, whichever is later. In your case you'd be locked in until age 61. The...

    Schwab's Intelligent Portfolio Launch

Schwab will get your money and put you in one of their funds that they recieve fees for. Although they are low fee ETFs they are still fees. When I rolled my 401k into an IRA in Feb I told them I'd invest it myself. No further contact other than a few emails inviting me to online webinars...
