Years of work to maximize SS?

Nice thread. I always wondered this also. I have five years of lower earnings , then the max earnings for the next 15 or so. Time to go use the calculator. Part of me tells me to ignore it because SS won't be there for people like me.

Am I just a lazy SOB?

There is a huge difference between lazy and content. I think that this issue only comes up in cultures that are hyper competitive. If you have your finances in order you shouldn't lose a bit of sleep over what all of the busy bees think. GL on your FIRE. I for one am happy that you can do...

    Partially FIRE'ed at 30 - Social Issues / Dating

Hey sounds like you have your financial house in order. On the dating front, do not let people know that you even have a hint of wealth. It's much easier to find a genuine grounded person when money is not a factor. When my DW found out that I had a lot more than anyone would suspect it made...

Poll:What is your Car Value to Home Value ratio

My car is roughly 2.5% of my house value, depending on how cool people think 15 year old landcruisers are on that particular day.

Ok, have had it with the land line phone

I Cut the landline over ten years ago. All cell now. I don't miss the bills or sales calls. It was a non issue for my family. On My first day of retirement I am pitching the cell. I'm excited about that.

Warm places to visit "on the cheap"

My DW and I moved to the South Carolina coast a couple of years ago from Michigan. We love it here. Low cost of living, friendly people, low RE taxes. The only surprise was wind and flood coverage.

    Blood Pressure Medicines

Hmmm, 60 mile a week vegetarian long distance runner here (BMI 20). I'm on 5 mg of lisinopril per day. The only time it is ever out of whack any more is if I eat out at a restaurant. The sodium amounts in some foods is amazing. I'm only about 40, and had HBP since I was in my early thirties...

    Insurance sure costs a lot

These are just about the same as we are experiencing. The one exception is that your umbrella is a bit lower than ours. Your home insurance is also about $150 lower than ours, but that is based on home replacement costs, so it is difficult to compare apples to apples.

New roof or no new roof, that is the question

I'm with the new roof side. I had to bite the bullet and put a new standing seam steel roof on an old family farm house about five years ago. It was well over 20k. The peace of mind is really nice. Also keep in mind if you sell the place anyone offering is going to back the roof replacement...

    Your recent repair? 2013 - 2020

    Charleston SC and Savannah Ga

Hey, Charleston has really neat things for young active adults/teens. 1)ferry to Ft. Sumter, then to Patriot's Point. 2) Aircraft carrier/ museum at Patriot's Point. 3)quick drive to folly's beach for Beach Day 4)if they are into history their are tons of tours, even ghost tours and dark side...

    Charleston SC and Savannah Ga

We have stayed at the Palmer house B&B in Charleston, and the Governor's house inn. Palmers House has just about the best porch I've ever sat on. It looks over the harbor. Palmer House also has a more reasonable range for price points that were acceptable to us. Hint: if you do Charleston and...
