ER in 2017 for Expats Heading Home

Aus_E_Expat: While I don't count our actual expenditures down to the penny, I recently tried to compare our current Average Monthly Expenses (AME) against our original Estimated Monthly Expenses (EME) and I came up with the following: I had originally our EME at around $6400 compared to our...

How much in cash at the time of retirement?

We originally had about $200K in cash (2 years worth of expected expenses in retirement (~$100K per year)) when we initially retired in 2017. As time has worn on however I have reduced that to a floating value between $50K to $100K, depending upon what we have going on etc. and haven't had any...

Jake, both my wife and I worked in Saudi Arabia for 2 and 1.5 decades respectively. If a person has their ducks in a row, and can afford to do so, then I recommend ER! :)

    What are you spending on?

Not yet retired (come on April 2017!) but our planned budget has about $2500/mnth that I have classified as "discretionary" in our budget ($30K/yr) which is about 36% of our planned budget. This includes such things as travel, eating out etc.

    Umbrella Liability Policy

Don't have an actual full umbrella but do have an additional $1MM Liability policy on our rental house in FL for $700/yr (above what comes with our Homeowner's policy of $300K personal liability). Will be getting a full umbrella insurance package when we retire to the house in 2017, probably...

Fee Only Advisor wants to use Schwab

I have a FA that currently manages about 9% of my total investable assets, and they do it at Schwab. They have access to a specific sub-account I have at Schwab which they use for individual stock investments (no ETF's or MF's etc.). I can see everything that they do within the account and have...
