Mickey

I joined the Air Force in 1980, 5 days after graduating from high school. After 27 1/2 years and all the enlisted promotions I could get, I retired 1 January 2008 as a Chief Master Sergeant (E9).

I was (am?) a Supply troop (started with AFSC 645x0, which then changed to 2S0x1); technically, an Inventory Management Specialist. I've been stationed in Oklahoma, Louisana (twice), Korea (twice), Arkansas, Turkey, Nevada, Germany, Texas and the United Kingdom. I've been temporary duty (TDY) to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait.

I think the best aspect of my career, aside from the GREAT people I got to meet and work with, was the travel. Thanks to Uncle Sam, I got to live in all the places I listed above, plus get to be a tourist in England, Scotland, Germany, Greece, France and Italy. Wonderful!

I would not change my experiences in the Air Force for anything, but am very glad I am retired. The ubiquitous "they" were right when they said, regarding retirement from the military: "You'll know when it's time to go."

Now, I'm living the life of a retiree, fully supported by my AF pension.

After "sitting around" for the past [almost] two years, I will take advantage of Congress's gift of the new G.I. bill and go back to college for a degree in Accounting. That will be a different experience to which I am truly looking forward.

All in all - me likes retirement!

I like reading, singing (chorale and choir) and browsing teh Interwebz.
