    Medicare Plans

Even if you don't currently use a lot of healthcare that doesn't mean that you won't eventually need to. As a matter of fact most of us will need more and often times much more healthcare. Knowing that as I age I will be able to access the (high quality) healthcare that I need with a cap on...

We bought a new car last week!

I just report what we spend from our accounts each year which is a pretty consistent round number. We do not draw SS yet or have pensions. I've never been questioned but if I were I could easily justify that as a sustainable withdrawal rate. Congrats on the Camry....we had one years ago and...

Question if you're on Medicare please

Mine is $297/mo for part B +D + Medigap plus the $198 part B annual deductible. I take no maintenance medications so that's about it.....total $3,762/yr for medical. Out of pocket dental and eye care adds around $500/yr so grand total of about $4,300/yr. That's for me only. My wife is not...

Medicare Annual Wellness Visit is Worthless

I have an appointment every year which includes but is not limited to my annual wellness visit. We always go over what immunizations I may need which I believe are part of the annual wellness visit. I also have a couple very minor issues and those are addressed at the same time. Medicare...

Health Savings Administrators waives our annual admin fee - anyone else?

Same here. Moved to Fidelity last year and no admin fees since. Fidelity's online system is, not surprisingly, much more robust as well.

What percentage of your wealth is in a safe fund such as bonds or cash?

I'm retired and 50/50. The '08-'09 financial crisis taught me that this is my comfort level. I had more stocks prior to that time and although all turned out well (because I stayed the course and rebalanced as equities fell) it was a bit too nerve wracking for me with a higher equity level. I...

    Understand 1095-A form

We've never had a 1095-A that has exactly matched the real numbers. But it comes close so to save hassle and gain quality of sleep I just report what's on the form. I learned about the incompetence of the ACA people the year that they couldn't understand my income (retired with investment...

What is meant when people say an old person "becomes irrelevant"?

I only care about being relevant to the people I care about.

    PSA: Living With Plantar Faciitis

I got PF about ten years ago and thought my running days were over. Went to the doc, did PT, stretching, electrical stimulation, prescription orthotics, etc. You name it, I did it. After 1-2 years of trial and error I found Aetrex Orthotics which work very well for me. I also went to Brooks...

Plan F versus Plan G Medicare Supplement

The only 'catch' is that the deductible will go up and no one knows how much. It's actually the deductible on your Medicare Plan B which is adjusted by Congress. Plan F pays that deductible but G does not so it's your responsibility to pay it under Part G. I chose plan G because the then...

BEFORE ACA - what did retirees do?

I and my wife have had HSA plans through the Federal Marketplace that have been cancelled - or at least the plan was no longer offered so we were forced to purchase new plans. Maybe the rule you're referring to is specific to your state?

BEFORE ACA - what did retirees do?

But prior to ACA couldn't the insurance company drop you and if that happened then you would have to on a new plan likely subject to underwriting and with any pre-existing condition excluded?

BEFORE ACA - what did retirees do?

Our experience very closely mirrors pb4uski's. What we didn't have with private insurance prior to the ACA was coverage for pre-existing conditions. We didn't have any but once a condition popped up I assume that starting with the next year's coverage the condition could have been non-covered...

What is your Asset Allocation if you have no pension?

60/40 when I retired early. The '08-'09 financial crisis convinced me that 60/40 didn't match my actual risk tolerance so I dialed back to 50/50. I'll probably stay there until my Social Security (delaying until 70) and RMDs begin and then will reassess.
