File for SS at 62, Draw Until FRA and Suspend to get Delayed Retirement Credits

What's the benefit as opposed to waiting till FRA to file, or file and suspend at FRA and wait till 70?

Have you used a car buying service?

Not sure if you call it a buying service, through work I used the X plan from Ford to buy my truck. Went to ford.com, entered the truck I wanted, it spit out a build sheet and a price .4% over dealer invoice. Took it to the local dealer who honored it and tacked on $100 for paperwork. Took any...

what did you do today? (2008-2015) (closed)

Not much to do today so I went trout fishing in a nearby river. First step in the river I fell on my @%% in about a foot of h20, wet and banged up. Hobbled home and hit the tub. Learned it's very cold when you're soaked and it's a windy 40 degrees, not to mention embarrassing.

    Trick-or-Treaters

We have maybe 20-25 homes in the hood, average about an acre each, nothing else nearby. When we moved in 30 years ago we had a lot of kids but they all grew up and left. After dwindling to almost nothing, the older folks are moving out and younger families moving in. The last few years were at...

Moving away from kids in retirement

We have 2 kids and 5 grandkids, son and 2 boys (5&7) live about 10 minutes away. Daughter with 2 girls and 1 boy, all 3 and under, live about 35 minutes away. Already the boys are busy 24/7 so we see them maybe once every couple weeks, if we invite them for dinner. I RE'd a couple months ago...

    Quicken Life Planner

Everyone's circumstances are different. FWIW with QLP I used 62, 66 and 70 for myself and my wife (same age) and come out much better at 66 then 62 and better at 70 then 66 but not by the margin of the 66 over 62 difference. In my case my wife makes less then 30% of what I did so she'll take 50%...

Firewood vs #2 fuel oil - BTUs (cost per winter)

Changed my 1700 sq' ranch from electric (2x6 construction) to oil in 93. Including indirect hot water for the year I consistently use 650 gallons a year in western Ma. We do keep the house pretty cool compared to most at 68 before and after work and 62 at other times. Furnace checked at 83%...

Fees Taking a Third of Profit ?

Your original question is if you should look into changing the 1/3 profits you give to the FA. Yes, you should. Biggest savings is getting rid of the FA and do it yourself, saving about 1% of your total account balance, around $4000. There are also fee only (hourly fee) advisers out there...

Fees Taking a Third of Profit ?

Seeing as how you refuse to tell us what funds you are invested in and continue to think your FA is doing a swell job, I wish you the best of luck. May your FA enjoy the new car that you are helping him pay for. You paid $932 in fees for 1 quarter on an investment of $230k, or $3728 for the...

Current "Stable Value" Fund Returns ?

You asked if the returns lag the market. Based on observing our GIC fund for the last 30+ years, yes they lag, they follow interest rates but very slowly, in both directions. Ours are insured bundles or mortgages so the slow lag makes sense.

    how many layoffs you got?

Once, 10 weeks ago, took a voluntary layoff as the severance was enough to allow me to ER. After 100 years (30+ for me) the company was bought out, changed from a quality emphasis to a money emphasis. From an employees perspective the continual layoffs to cut corners changed it from from...

Fees Taking a Third of Profit ?

As a total, it's not 3%, it's 1%. You should provide more info on the investments, can't tell what your returns are based on the type of investment.

    The way to ER immediately?

Think that would dissolve my marriage too.
