11-18-2022: Clawed back to 400,000. Still down a couple 10K from the peak despite significant investments in the last 1.5 years. Of course those 400,000 are now worth more like 350,000... Oh well.

    Confessions From a Failed FIRE

I'm curious why you would say that. If you don't mind me asking, of course.

How can you retire really early if you work 35 years? 😄

SS Could Be Insolvent in 8 Years

I can at least offer some perspective from Germany. As you may or may not know, we are one of the countries with a quickly aging population, just behind Japan I believe. Now that boomers are starting to retire, this is putting significant pressure on our version of SS (GRV or "gesetzliche...

I'd take that, but realistically, I expect it to take closer to 8 years for my holdings to double again. The bigger the stash gets, the less impact my contributions have.

So I am thinking about a new fancy watch...

Please, OP is interested in a watch, not some plastic piece of crap. Personally, I wouldn't venture into five digits because I'd worry to much about it being damaged or stolen. But if I'll ever have too much money, a Patek Philippe 5396G-011 or an IWC IW344202 sure would be a treat.

Market to hit all-time high this morning !

I doubt it. Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but Pfizer really only provided financing and test/vaccine production infrastructure here. The development of the vaccine was done by the German BioNtech, which, while maybe not a startup any more, is a relatively new (founded in 2008)...

    Trying to time the markets

OP even got the second part right, too, and still failed to reap any benefits! Very interesting. Many thanks for sharing.

Wow, it’s getting really scary in Texas - and everywhere else!

Antibiotics do nothing against virus infections. These unnecessary prescriptions are a big reason why so many pathogens are becoming drug-resistant. Glad to hear your niece is doing better.

Filing early or late for SS in various countries

The average benefit in Germany is just about 800€ per month. However, this includes a lot of very small Renten, because some people only contributed for a few years before becoming self-employed etc. You need just 5 years having paid into the system in order to draw something (however small)...

Filing early or late for SS in various countries

Quite possibly so, but how is that relevant to the question at hand, ie. how much filing early or late reduces or increases the benefit?
