Preferred Stock Investing-The Good , The Bad and The In Between 2021

Thanks, Mulligan. I guess I'll hold on to those CEQP/PR shares for a while. Or at least until I can offset the capital gains with some losses. In this market, you wouldn't think that would be so difficult. LOL. Looking for fixed to float shares that float in the near future is an interesting...

Preferred Stock Investing-The Good , The Bad and The In Between 2021

Good morning, old friends. I haven't posted here for a good long while. For the most part, I've stopped choosing my own preferreds, instead leaving the choices to an outfit called Stonebridge that works with Schwab. It's less interesting and less fun, but I had a few clinkers that were...

Pension with Survivor Benefit or Buy Life Insurance?

When we reached Medicare age, my company kicked me off the retiree health plan and on to Uncle Sam. My wife's company did the same. They do give us about $100 a month to help with the Medicare premiums. I suspect many companies are doing the same these days.

What would be a good modern day "stereo system"?

The Cheap Audioman has some ideas on this subject. I bought some of the stuff he recommends for my son. For myself, I'm listening to an interesting set of speakers designed by Sigfried Linkwitz of Linkwitz-Riley crossover fame. Later in his life, he started designing speakers with digital...

Preferred Stock Investing-The Good , The Bad and The In Between 2015 - 2020

Losses are mostly in hospitality and MREITS. I also hold quite a few common shares of Weingarten Realty, a shopping center REIT. They have reduced but not eliminated the div. I expect them to come back eventually. They have a lot of good properties. I had been thinking about doing this for a...

I noticed that yesterday Stonebridge bought WCC-A (Wesco Intl 10.625%) for $26.75.

Yes. But so far I've only paid one quarter of fee, or 0.15%. To be fair, the 22% comes mostly from the fact that April 3 was a great day to start. Everything was really beat up at that time.

Preferred Stock Investing-The Good , The Bad and The In Between 2015 - 2020

Dear Friends, It's been a long time since I've posted here. I decided that I don't have the time or energy to be investigating individual issues. I ended up making some expensive mistakes, exacerbated by not knowing when to sell. I still like the idea of holding some preferreds, so I hired...

I had GLOPC for a while, but sold it at breakeven after collecting divs for 18 months or so.

Dear Friends, One of my mistakes was MDLQ. I'm cleaning up my porfolio a bit. Do I keep that one, now yielding 9.7% or so? Or bite the bullet and take the loss?

What is the last thing you ordered from Amazon?

I bought this Wonder Years DVD set. A gift for my wife. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GTQW73V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Sous Vide anyone?

I probably use my Anova sous vide circulator two or three times a week. I buy large packages of steak and chicken at Costco, then season them with salt, pepper, and granulated garlic. Then I vacuum pack them in smaller packages and pop them in the freezer. They can go straight from the freezer...

Thinking of buying a Tesla Model S. Someone talk me out of it!

That's cool. Right now, I'm driving a Ford Focus ST, which is the turbocharged version. Because I chose that model, I can never get 40 MPG. So a car like the Model 3 would have quicker acceleration but still do much better than the ST in easy driving. BTW, 12 miles in my car with brisk but...
