I am from Louisville, and live in Memphis now. I would suggest: Chattanooga (the aquarium is good), Fall Creek Falls, and Mammoth Cave. Abraham Lincoln's birthplace isnt that far from Mammoth Cave (have never been there). In Memphis, eat barbeque at either Rendezvous or The Commissary.

I am planning to do something similar, buying new house, using funds from a HELOC for the down payment.

Update, they have dropped the price once more, by 25K, and rejected my offer once again. I did learn that I am the ONLY person who has made an offer since the house was put on the market last October....guess I have no choice but to wait them out.

check out Bonita Springs. It is an awesome town very close to Ft. Myers.

They have been reducing every 30 days by 20K to 30K. I just need them to reduce it 1.5 times to consider my offer.

I am interested in a Fannie Mae foreclosure. They listed the property in last fall for a price that is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the house is worth, considering all of the required repairs. They have, over the course of several months, lowered the price by +75K. The house is still overpriced...
