Food & drink habits: maintaining discipline

Since we retired our diet has changed. Far less convenience foods, less frozen meat, less junk food, more fresh salads, more fresh meat (can shop fresh meat market daily if I want to), more cooking or less cooking...depends on the mood. We take turns most of the time but I have some...

    Waited too long to retire?

My first retirement was at age 50. Early Special Retirement from Major Corp. after 25 years of service (servitude). My DW was 56 with 35 years and we both FIREd in the same year. I worked for a different company in a different state because 1. They paid for the entire move 2. Offered me a...

The role of FATE in retirement

FATE has a lot of influence on FIRE. A quick example... At age 50 I retired from Big Pharma along with my wife of 9 years. We moved to another state; I took a job with a company that payed for the move. My intent was to work a year to pay off the moving debt, add to my FIRE $$$ and then...

INTPs - mental stimulation after FIRE?

Can't remember the INTX stuff...not important to me anymore. Since FIRE this my short list of "stuff" to keep my mind busy.... * Bought a Class A RV and traveled across the country a few times. Learning to operate a 43 foot 42,000 lb. beast towing a SUV with a combined length of 64 feet on...

Questions for retiree’s from a young guy

I retired first at age 50. Took another job with a company that made stuff I was interested in learning more about...they paid to move me 1500 miles from my retirement home. Worked 5 years with them; did my own thing for the most part and had very little of the Corporate BS issues with...

    Downsizing into an RV

My first post since 2011. We bought the RV in 2007 but also kept the house. Since then we still have the same RV but sold the mountain cabin, relocated twice and now live in a 55+ community. Early in the post-retirement phase of our lives, we did the RV traveling thing...coast to coast...

    Car Mileage after FIRE

I think the first couple of years of ER my car went more miles attached to the RV than my driving it. Our long trips have been replaced by much shorter duration ones with an average of 700 miles per trip several times per year instead of 5000-8000 miles per trip. Some weeks the car sits in...

    Clinical trials?

A clinical trial of that short of a time period seems like one that evaluating the short term effects of a drug substance. Full disclosure is indeed mandated here since any manner of evil medical procedure could be inflicted on you over the 9 days and 10 night stay at the clinic. Be prepared...

Sugar Nation - by Jeff O'connell

Gotta keep the supply of patients high so they can meet quarterly expectations....the heck with good health...good health is bad for business...the sicker the better.

Sugar Nation - by Jeff O'connell

It sort of depends on the beer type too. I tend to drink heavier beers so the residual sugar content would be a bit higher than in a Budlight. Even 12 grams of sugar is more than I want to invest at times in my diet for a single item. I will at times do so but it is a planned event. Good...

    Heartburn cure that works

Rich, can't agree more with your suggestions. I had a severe reflux attack about 15 years ago at w*rk and had most of the symptoms of a heart attack and with my family history of heart disease I thought I should have the local clinic check it out. Long story short...they sent me by ambulance...

Sugar Nation - by Jeff O'connell

The only problem with beer is the amount of carbs. in it. Nearly all beers contain a lot of unfermented sugar which is a problem for me. I love a nice hoppy ale (India Pale or ESB) even made a few myself back when I had the time when I was w*rking.
