Help me refine my message to my advisor

I like you’re thought and definitely think it would be rude/disrespectful to just transfer out if you feel he or she has provided valuable guidance and advice. Most do it yourselves lag the indexes by wide margins for a variety of reasons including behavior. The stats are easy to find and the...

High income ER - long-term follow-up from post 5 yrs ago

Great comments and as a low teens NW family with three kids 11, 10 and 8 I share the affluenza concerns. My middle son has a fascination with sharks and reads at an adult level on the topic. I just took the family fishing for a four day weekend flying biz class due to COVID. We also have seven...

    Indexed annuity story

I totally disagree with this statement. There are uncapped indexed annuities that are actually variable. My goal is to supplement a large equity portfolio with $750k in an Allianz Index Advantage that will pay 7% at 65. That will be my “pension”. Very jealous of all the pensions here. With...

    Somewhat worried.

You’re in good shape, the only other thing I might consider is a plan for long term care. You are close to being able to self insure. Also make sure your investment allocation in firecalc matches your actual allocation under the 3rd or 4th tab. I’d recommend at least 70% equity.

49 with 2 young kids hoping to retire soon

Agree with some of the other comments, kids, healthcare and tax hurdle with qualified accounts prior to 59.5 make it too much of a reach, but you are close, perhaps 55? I just turned 50 DW 40 3 kids 12, 10 & 8 and currently there is a more generous ACA benefit from the Recovery Act that expires...

    Health Insurance Premium Poll- Bronze

Thanks for this. I did figure this out after a morning meeting, and found an interesting article that speculated on beyond 2022. Once the government gives something away, it is hard for it to take it back. I would expect that there will be some type of extension, but not in its full form. There...

    Health Insurance Premium Poll- Bronze

Well, you may have just made an important discovery for me- and you are correct on the website. The last time I used it three or four years ago I had to act like I was applying to get a quote and then I was bombarded with texts and emails on insurance, as well as mail from Access CT. The most...

    Health Insurance Premium Poll- Bronze

I am very familiar with Access health. It requires you to login and basically apply for health insurance to get a quote. There is no way to get an idea of what health insurance will cost without actually applying for it in CT. I am also trying to get a sense of what others pay around the...

    Health Insurance Premium Poll- Bronze

Hi I am on my company plan and it has been a while since I have been in the individual plan marketplace. We will definitely not receive an AC subsidy. I was wondering what families are paying for bronze plans HPHP, we are a family of five me 50, DW 40, 11, 10, and 8? If you are a family of...

Turning 50 in a month, I know what you are going to say..

I agree with this, and appreciate it. I know it sounds like a big lifestyle, and it is in some ways, but there are definitely things we can cut like BMW and country club. Also, I won’t be spending 300k when I’m 80, unless I’m gifting or doing big family trips. That’s another reason why I decided...

Great point on the kids, I think about this all the time. I always say kids learn by watching. Appreciate the vote of confidence, I def feel like I have steered the ship okay thus far.

    Targeting 2025 with small kids

I recently posted and attracted some comments on reducing spending and I have exactly the same spend level that you do at $300k at 49, DH 39. Bottom line is that I feel the same way you do- I am on the board of the YMCA and give $5-10k a year, belong to a country club, drive a suburban /BMW...

Turning 50 in a month, I know what you are going to say..

Yes and I still feel 55 is right age. If you go back and read the original post, I simply posed the question of, can I retire (now that net worth up 2.5mm) with firecalcl at 100%? The other point I am trying to make is that firecalc is saying I am 100% at a 3.5% WR- I am not sure I am...

Turning 50 in a month, I know what you are going to say..

A lot of good points here and really do appreciate everything including constructive criticism. In terms of investments, I have about a $2.8mm capital gain in the portfolio. Part of the reason I bought the Lake George House was to peel off some fixed income and leveraged equity/ closed end...

Turning 50 in a month, I know what you are going to say..

I disagree. Things have changed. Net worth up almost $3mm, sold VT house bought Lake George house, flew to SC to investigate Mount Pleasant but decided not to move until retirement due to potential bubble prices. I also may lose my job next year when the business sale is complete, so I need to...
