$500,000 per couple primary residence exclusion and inflation

Should you die while living in the house, isn't the cost basis adjusted to current market value? If the house is in both of your names, Might have to leave it to the kids to get this adjustment.

Take SS earlier if I'll have large RMDs?

I have been aggressively converting tIRAs to Roth but I will still have large RMDs when the time comes. Does it make sense to take SS earlier even if I don't need the money to reduce the impact of the tax torpedo later on? Seems like maybe, but I'd sure like the opinion of some of the folks on...

Rolling over a 401k that includes after tax contributions

I have a $3mm 401k that I will be rolling over to a Trad IRA in the coming months. I am over 59-1/2. Any Roth IRA that I have is only two or three years old. My 401k has about $190K in after tax contributions. When I roll this over I can direct these after tax contributions either to my bank...

Month long trip bring the laptop or not?

I replaced my 17" Lenovo laptop with a MacBook Air last year. We travel four or five months of the year and this has made a huge difference. Highly recommended. And the transition from PC to Mac was a non issue.

    Paying taxes on Roth conversions

I am planning on pretty aggressive Roth conversions again this year. I am planning to do multiple conversions but hate paying quarterly taxes. Can someone explain the strategy to do a year end conversion for taxes to avoid having to pay estimated taxes throughout the year?

    Your 2023 effective tax rate

I did some large-ish Roth conversions. Overall tax for 2023 was 12.29%. Still a big number.

    Saudia Airlines?

I think you'll be quite satisfied. The Saudia fleet is reasonably young and can be nice. I've flown with them multiple times, albeit relatively short hauls. Plus, Saudi is working hard to market itself as tourist-friendly. And with Saudia being state owned I suspect this is one of the...

Driving a Rental Car in Normandy.

Driving in Europe is one of my favorite things. We have put thousands and thousands of miles on rental cars all through western Europe and the UK for the last 15 years on holiday. The driving is excellent and easy. One benefit of having a rental car is being able to access great AirBNB places...

Help. I deserve credit card rewards!

We pay off the card in full every month. I've never rolled over a credit card payment, now that I think of it. We have a USAA visa rewards card. I don't know how this card compares to others, but I'm no inclined to find out.

Help. I deserve credit card rewards!

I spent $180,000 with my credit card last year. Lots but not unusual. Certainly I am missing out on a rewards credit card. But which one gives me the best benefits? I want the best cash rewards. Help.

    Retirement and 401K to IRA

Can you explain this a little further? Are you performing Roth conversions from you TIRA and thinking about your pro-rata calculation? I don't think that is impacted by any 401k rollover. Are there other considerations? I've got a huge 401k that is still sitting in place (five years after...
