    Repositioning cruises

I have taken many repositioning cruises - transatlantic and transpacific. The 2 most recent this year were both transatlantics and they were fully-booked and crowded. Long lines and wait times for shows and restaurants. Cruising is recovering quickly from covid and more popular than ever. If you...

    Annual travel insurance policy?

GeoBlue has many options for international medical insurance including single trip, extended trip and annual plans. They have a great website where you run can scenarios and get premium estimates. I’m a frequent traveler who takes extended trips outside the US, so I’ve been using GeoBlue’s...

    voluntary IRS IP PIN?

Don’t do it. I “opted in” a couple of years ago. Last year I accessed the PIN online, no problem. This year I am currently locked out of my IRS account, many others having the same problem apparently, nobody at the IRS can explain why. Big mystery. But now they will not mail me the...

Disillusioned with HOA and thinking of moving

Does anybody know of such a place? I would gladly pay a premium to live there - HOA or not!

    Air travel and CBD

I wish people would spell out these new acronyms to save the rest of us the time and trouble. “CBD”? Ok I clicked and scrolled through multiple posts before realizing it had to do with marijuana. I don’t do drugs so I wasn’t familiar with this acronym.

    Amtrak - Going BIG!

I rode the Amtrak Zephyr from Chicago to SF last summer. Pros: food exceeded expectations; met some nice people - there were a lot of quirky Amtrak fans who ride Amtrak around the country A LOT; the stops are timed to make the most of the Rocky Mountain and Sierra Mountain scenery during the...

    Travel hopes for 2022

I travel full-time, without a home base, so travel is a way of life for me. I’m on a cruise this week - Mayan Riviera - and enjoying it very much. Today is a sea day and I’m spending it working on an extensive 2022 travel schedule. If all goes to plan, I’ll spend 100 nights on cruise ships...

Frustration on resolving IRS penalty notice

Glad to here this. Congratulations. These delays with IRS issues and resolutions are nerve wracking. It’s not right.

    Wedding Gift when not invited?

For niece or nephew I send a card with a nice note and $250. I no longer attend any weddings in person (due to the all usual drama and unpleasantness, whether friends or family) so whether I get invited or not is irrelevant.

    Breakthrough club

I caught covid while traveling outside the US. I had been “fully vaccinated” with Pfizer in March. My covid symptoms were consistent with vaccinated symptoms: cold-like symptoms for a few days, although followed by some chest irritation at days 7-9. Also lost my sense of smell for a few days...

    Wedding gift disenchantment

There is far too much attention paid to wedding gifts. That the cost of this gift is even questioned tells me it was more than what was deserved.

Anyone Regret doing a Roth Rollover ?

I also missed out on stimulus checks due to Roth conversion. Plus, after paying a substantial amount of income tax from my taxable account for the rollover, I now find myself facing substantial capital gains taxes in my taxable account if I want to rebalance the funds now sitting in the Roth...
