    Surf's Up! - Earthquake - Hawaii - 6.3

Glad you're o.k. Nords. Any other Hawaii-based members here? Yup, had my share of the shakes during my six-year habitation of California. I vividly remember the early morning Oct. 1987 Whittier-Narrows tremblor in LA. I was doing graduate work at USC then and late nights were de rigeur. I had...

Anyone in the age group 40-49??

I'm 42. ER'd in April this year. Decompression almost complete. Currently still relishing an almost euphoric sense of freeeeedom permeating in my consciousness. Later may do some advisory jigs in exchange for chump change and paid travel to exotic locations :coolsmiley:

    Gas prices....................................

Hmm, lets see .... its 1.92 Ringgit per litre here in Kuala Lumpur. After the necessary litre/US gallon and Ringgit/US Dollar conversions, this translates to US$1.98 per gallon. It was US$1.67 per gallon a half-yr ago. Our fuel prices are still among the lowest in the region.

    Home to net worth %??

Home as % of Net Worth = 14% Home + Vacant Lot (technically a "home" category asset as it generates no returns beyond intrinsic value appreciation, if any) as % of Net Worth = 27% Bought the home cash 10 yrs ago. Somehow, I sleep better under a mortgage-free roof. Bought the land for $154k at...

    Sorry for not reintroduce myself

Mach, glad to have you back. Yup, many of my IT/Software-related friends are scampering to the exit, not wanting to be the guy to turn off the lights. The heighten rate of technology/systems evolution, increasing complexity of problems to be solved, compressed margins due to overall industry...

    Stuck newbie

Road, I hope you're progressing well in your fledgling lifestyle blueprint since your last post. Yup, spousal (... and to a lesser extent offspring) buy-in are crucial to the sustainability of any structural shifts in your lifestyle. The disconnects I noticed here include a dichotomy of life...

    Finally Free

Congrats and wishing you good health and happiness !!! Yup, I second ESRBob's point. My first week back in April was bliss ....... and that "first week" feeling has lingered these last three mths. Freedom is priceless. Now, ...... back to doing what I do best nowadays ...... goofing off in...

Suffering from Burnout - Can I FIRE?

Blue, You've made it my friend. Congrats and good riddance to Tektoxics .... Take time to decompress, resist the temptation to peek into the deep dark cesspool of your old w*rk silo, recalibrate your life bearings, regain your true inner soul and enjoy life a day at a time. Once you're...

    FI@35 - My Story

FI@35, Welcome and congrats. Thats what we call payback time for your years of tenacious sparring with assorted degenerates masquerading as "bosses" in a social and spiritual cesspool littered with cubicles, blinking fluorescent lights and creaky chairs and populated by stressed-out...

He he he ...... amusing stuff.    Yet another intriguing personality added to our Board. Kaleko, grüß dich!  Which part of my great old habitat, LA, will you be languishing in? I have surreal memories of LA during my USC student days in the eighties.  :P

Suffering from Burnout - Can I FIRE?

Blue, I myself walked away from corporate world upper mgt 10 days ago. Thoughts of ER have been languishing in my mind these past 2-3 yrs but my point-of-inflection came in a 6.30pm high level project management meeting three mths ago involving 20 stressed-out, miserable grown men/women with...

    One more bailing out ......

samclem, good luck in your house rehab project. Yeah, at least in my family, I do observe a link between "working the land" and longevity. My aunt's 70+ yr old husband retired as a school principal two decades ago and since then tends to his orchard 6-9am and 5-7pm with naps and leisure in...
