Rebalancing...one fell swoop or via new investments?

Hello forum - you guys are a true resource! I mostly lurk and listen and learn! I need to rebalance my portfolio. I've been ignoring it which is good (prevents hasty sells) but also bad (portfolio may have gotten too out of alignment with target AA). Also, my target asset allocation needs...

    Can we do this?

Thanks for the thoughts. I realized today that in FIDO I had budgeted for replacement cars for each of us and hadn't put that in Firecalc. I did that just now and it EDIT: it doesn't bring my Firecalc score down at all. Still 100%. So I've printed out both analyses and will go down them with...

    Can we do this?

On the front page of Firecalc, I say we spend $193K a year. When I do "investigate" and ask "how much can I spend and stay close to 100%," it says $253,570. Now I know why everyone loves Firecalc. JOKING!!! I must have an error somewhere. Time to print and peruse. Other ideas welcome!

    Can we do this?

The principle and interest payment will stay the same...if no remodel, then we'll pay it off in 2035; if we remodel, we'll have the same payment for another 15 years.

    Can we do this?

Hello – thanks for all of you who ask and answer questions here. It's a HUGE help. I’m stuck. We are doing some scenario planning to see what’s possible. We’re 6-9 years from retirement and we're contemplating a remodel of our home. I’m 59; DH is 51. We both work; contribute maximums...

Forums / websites like this one for planning a remodel

My apologies if this is so far off topic as to violate norms here...but we are thinking of doing some remodeling and I'm looking for sound, deep information on what to take into account before meeting with contractors. Sort of like the solid, detailed advice one finds here about saving for...

Best resource to ease someone in to tracking / reducing expenses?

Hello all! I lurk a lot but post rarely. I do most of my & DH's retirement planning and am about to go through another closer look at our expenses, savings, etc. DH expressed an interest in reducing spending but not reducing his standard of living. I see this as a potential hook to get him...

    Mulling a refi

Hi there! I’m a frequent lurker; very rare poster. I really appreciate the thoughtful responses the community gives, so let me say thanks for everything you’ve given me to think about over the past few years. I currently have two questions on mortgages. Facts: We have a 15 year mortgage...

    Firecalc--accounting for mortgage?

Dtail suggests the following: I would think you can reflect the yearly mortgage expense in the "Other Income/Spending" tab under "Off chart Spending" - showing an expense starting from xxx year on line 1 and showing income in xxx year when the mortgage ends on line 2. I'm confused why you...
