    Engagement Rings

Good luck to you and always lovely to hear when people find their right one. :) To your question, I liked that my DH picked out the ring and surprised me. Of course it was a big purchase and he did ask for my preferences and knew what my dislikes were. He hinted at one point that I could pick...

PRWCX thoughts? (TRowe Price capital appreciation)

Re: PRWCX thoughts? (TRowe Price capital appreciat All of my other funds are in index so this was a higher expense ratio, but it appealed to me for the same reason you noted--- the historical returns were impressively stable even in the rough times. I believe I stumbled upon it on a past Fool...

Why is NC state income tax so f#@&ing high?

I've lived in three of I think five states with no state income tax. TX, FL, NH. I would have a really hard time accepting a state income tax at this stage. IIRC, in Texas sales tax is relatively high, I think its 7.25 with some counties near at 8%.

    Bogle's Rule of 72

I agree with the others and gf. As hard as you have been working, you gotta earmark some fun money. If a little fun money can prevent a "quarter/mid-life crisis" you may look at it as an investment. ;D Don't go overboard, but you also gotta remember to enjoy life. Tomorrow is not promised...

    Wearing Shoes in the House

I have gone full circle. Growing up, we were not allowed to wear shoes in house. Cultural thing. As a kid I hated it and all the other rules we had to live with that were different than my friends from school. :-/ As soon as I had my own place, yeah, I wore shoes in the house because I...

    Mid 40's Female, RE

Kay, welcome to the board. I am not ER yet, so I can't advise. Yet I can't resist responding because I must be on the exact same road as you, just a little bit behind. I am convinced the female experience of ER is unique due to the generational differences between us and our mothers and fathers...

    ER Conundrum

Back to your topic, can't give advise but will share a female perspective: People generally dont like to talk about their own or loved ones mortality. But, we have been told women supposedly live longer than men, and she is 5 years younger-- maybe she would be more comfortable with her own...

Re: Ouch, Windedhare, that was my motivation too. Great post Nords! I dont have this knowledge yet, but I know myself and I know parenthood will be the biggest "challenge". I am smart enough to realize that at this point I need to re-wire my head to prepare for the responsibility. I think of...

    Opportunity Cost Of Kids

I'm too unlucky not to plan. In planning I believe I make up for the lack of luck. I could be delusional, but at least the delusion makes me think I have some control:D
