    I am now ready

Correct, I can change and reduce my budget easy enough, but I will not reduce that any further for another 8 to 10 years.

    I am now ready

Reducing the budget isn't a problem. It can be chopped down. Also, I certainly don't have an issue managing my own portfolio. In fact, I would enjoy that. I selected a professional simply because of the lack of time for studying investments.

I'm 46, and would like to retire in 2013

I think I will struggle with not being able to buy whatever I want, whenever I want. I can live on a budget, but right now I am pretty free wheeling. I enjoy the lifestyle (away from work) that I live now. I do however feel I will enjoy the retirement lifestyle too. What retirement means is...

I'm 46, and would like to retire in 2013

To clear up a few things: 1. Life Insurance = $4mm total, and $8k in premiums per year. 2. Removing the life insurance, and trimming up, I can get my BEFORE tax needs to $115k. 3. No way I live past 80. 95 is impossible. 4. SS will be 20k per year for me, and 10k for my wife. (46 & 42) 5...

I really appreciate everyones help. After a week of getting a little more detailed with my expenses, I have a nice comfortable detailed budget of $110,000 before taxes. My wife and I will have an income of $10,000 after taxes from her job, along with full family health and dental. Knowing...

Rich, Sorry, it was Health Insurance. My wife hasn't worked in 20 years, she is willing to work, excited to work, and ok if I don't do much.

On the fringe of ER, but not sure

I can get my yearly spending down to $120k without much effort. Regarding Life insurance, my wife will be able to add me to her policy at the school she works at, but I have alloted an additional $800 per month just in case. I never thought much about a part time job. Not sure what I would do.

On the fringe of ER, but not sure

The $135 does not include taxes. Certainly the $135k is conservitive, but also allows for the unknows.

On the fringe of ER, but not sure

Connie, My wife is along for whever ride we go on. A 6 month Sabattical will not fly at my new job. Looking back, I should have gone on the 6 month Sabattical before I started my new job. Regarding the Market, no doubt it can be a rollercoaster ride, but looking long term, the market always...

    Hello Again

That helps me a lot. I can certainly curb my spending, but for now, I will take the job for 3 to 5 years and see what happens. I assume I am in a really good position compared to the majority of people that retire?

    Hello-Need Advice

Thanks for everyones help so far. Breaking things down last night, I know I can live for sure on $80,000 per year after taxes, but $85,000 to $90,000 would be a little nicer. 100K was a little overboard. Does anyone want to offer an opinion on this, in lieu of my 100K per year option...

    Hello-Need Advice

I appreciate everyones help here so far. Ok, some more questions 1. Assuming that I Semi-Retire, and earn 20k to 25k pre-tax, would that help my situation? 2. Having never had to deal with Health Insurance outside of my business, what would be my best deductible to set, knowing my current...
