Yeah I did the Sasso Lungo. Actually I never heard of it being called a coffin but more as a telephone cabin.

    Dolomites in September

You should get some good weather out of the 4 weeks you will stay up there. I've only been to Alta Badia once, Cortina d'Ampezzo once and Val Gardena twice. One thing that may be of interest is Val Gardena Active, which is a card you get for staying a certain number of nights at an...

    Dolomites in September

I've been to the Dolomites several times. Like Austria, this is one of the rainiest parts of the world. August is typically when they have the lowest rainfall. But I've been in Val di Gardena where for 4 days it rained and often heavily. Parking is an issue, especially in Ortisei. You will...

    Luggage

I had a large Tumi suitcase. It got dirty on the first trip, because those conveyor belts are filthy and the baggage handlers always put the suitcase on the front. I spent a couple of hundred repairing it twice because the handle kept tearing off. That's the top handle. I pack the large...

    Blow that Dough 2024

Yeah HFC is definitely a must unless you don't plan to go anywhere. But even a few 3-4 hour train rides and the HFC almost pays for itself. And ditto on the SBB app, it's the best setup, you can literally search a route in real time and make last minute decisions, choose where to go or what to...

    Latest Inflation Numbers and Discussion

I guess Powell saying he doesn't see a reason to tighten soothed the market today. I think also this week EU had a good number on inflation.

    Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)

You could do unattended charging, schedule it through the app. Or presumably, you can initiate a charge from your phone. But a greater concern about unattended charging would be possible fires if there are problems with the batteries, as was the case with Bolts a couple of years ago. Though...

    Airline mileage programs

I just applied and got the United Explorer card, 60k miles. It's at least the 3rd time I will have this card, both times getting the welcome bonus miles. But the main reason I got it this time, I need to renew Global Entry and it will reimburse the fee. The annual fee is $95 but free the...

    Airline mileage programs

I don't think this is anything new necessarily. For at least the past 5 years, FF programs now make you earn points in addition to dollars to get status. These points are pretty much based on the fares you pay and you can only get points by booking directly. The other wrinkle is that some...

    Latest Inflation Numbers and Discussion

So the first print on GDP for the first quarter came out low this morning. But the PCE for the first quarter came out hotter, 3.7% instead of the expected 3.4%. Mixed signals for the Fed if economy is finally slowing down? Jobs report for April should be next week.

    Electric Vehicles - Models Discussion

There are suppose to be all kinds of bargains available now, including some lease deals. Unfortunately, my lease runs until January. Will see if those deals are still around. But new EVs to come, including the Volvo EX30, which has sold well in Europe.

    Home EV charging

And this is in North Yorkshire, which is like the middle of England? You can generate enough power from solar for the house and also charge the EV? Is this all year round or mostly spring/summer/fall?

Feds investigating inadvertent emergency braking on Honda cars. https://arstechnica.com/cars/2024/04/feds-expand-investigation-into-hondas-automatic-emergency-braking-system/ As for FSD, sounds like the main value is on long stretches of highway, so that you can relax a bit, kind of like...

Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2024 - Please post updates here

Last time I renewed, about 4-6 weeks ago, it was about the same 1-year for a bit over 5%. OTOH, I have a 10-month CD maturing next week which has an APY of 4.48% and they're offering 5% APY for 10, 12 or 15 months at a local credit union. For the convenience of not having to move funds around...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

The show creators are the ones who made Game of Thrones. So NF gave them reportedly a $300 million show to develop shows for NF. 3BP is the first one. I doubt they'd spend that much money and decide to be finished after one season. Amazon paid half a billion for the rights to Rings of Power...

    Spring 2024 booster

Wow this booster, which should be the same as the one in October, is walloping me. Woke up in the middle of the night, about 12 hours after the shot, with the injection site hurting. I sleep on the same side so it was from the weight. Also groggy and a bit of a headache. No such symptoms...

    Spring 2024 booster

I wasn’t asked for my insurance and I fill my prescriptions at a different pharmacy so they wouldn’t know where to bill. I didn’t know if they’d say no like Safeway did. I figure it was worth a try since I’m traveling next week.
