61 and getting closer, a question on withdraw...does it pain you?

Ha - one reason we moved away from California! No state income tax in Texas!

61 and getting closer, a question on withdraw...does it pain you?

It REALLY bothered me for the first year or two - but I did finally get used to it! After so many years of counting every penny and saving, saving, saving, to start withdrawing was hard for me. But now - it's just where I go to get my money!

    Hip pain ????

That sounds like sciatica to me - it is worse in the morning and gets better during the day. I can't remember why, but that's what my doctor said.

Planning 5 weeks in Italy, need advice

I recently had someone recommend Homeaway.com. I've looked at it for London, and i like the filters that it lets you apply. Looks like they've got tons of properties in Rome.

    New Car

I definitely agree on the Lexus front end being ugly - that was the only model I refused to look at in my crossover search. We just pulled the trigger yesterday on a Lincoln MKX. I got everything that I wanted for only a couple of thousand more than a comparably equipped Ford Edge - and I love...

    Costco AMEX Replacement Card

Has anyone tried using the new cards yet? We haven't got ours yet, but I'm curious if the June date is really a hard date for any usage, or just marketing with Costco (since they won't take it until then).

    "World-class colonoscopy"

I think that this is true if they don't find anything - the minute they find a polyp, it becomes diagnostic and you have to pay. Doesn't seem fair, somehow!

    "World-class colonoscopy"

I just successfully completed mine. I used Supraprep, which was actually not as horrible as I was anticipating. I only had about a quarter of the second dose, but I still got an "Excellent prep" on my report. Propofol was great - easy out, easy wake-up! And I'm on the 10 year plan!

Global Entry Pass and TSA Travel Pre-check

I know that's the theory, but I did check several times during the two month wait for an appointment - there was never an available spot. Maybe in busier airports - we're not a mega-airport in San Antonio!

Global Entry Pass and TSA Travel Pre-check

It IS the US Government we're talking here......

Global Entry Pass and TSA Travel Pre-check

We just got ours. It took forever to get an appointment in San Antonio, but it was very quick to get our cards once we finally got the appointment. I don't think it took 2 weeks - I think it was less. And yes, they give you the number right away to enter into your airline account. If you have...

    Exercise to reduce back pain

Has he been seeing a pain doc? They may be his best bet - they will work with you regarding meds, and other options if meds don't work. I'm working with one now for arthritis in the spine and sacroiliac - first 2 meds gave good relief, but caused issues, so I'm going to go back in to see what...

Quicken 2016 and TurboTax 2015 Download

Thank you, thank you! I knew that they did this for some people, but didn't really know where to look. Yay, I get Premier for free! That helps make up for the time I wasted on the phone yesterday with H&R Block, trying to get their software installed - finally gave up and got my...

    Travel Insurance?

I bought trip insurance thru Costco for my parents for a cruise. It was incredibly cheap compared to other quotes I was getting. What I was told was that they charge the same amount to everyone, regardless of their age. Other insurance companies charge based on the age of the traveler. We...

    Any regrets?

I have been kicking myself for not doing a Roth conversion last year. We didn't have that much income, and it would have been a great time to do it. I won't make the same mistake this year - the last year before DH turns 59 1/2.

    renting to a child

We did the same thing for my mom. We went in with my brother - we have little/no income, so needed him to help get the mortgage! We both benefit from the tax write-offs - it helps him now, and it will help us when DH turns 59 1/2 and we get to hit the retirement accounts! My mom "complains"...

    Toe arthritis

Interesting question. My immediate response was - no - not gout! But upon thinking about it, you have the very valid point that gout is very controllable now - arthritis not so much. You're right - I'd take gout (and the accompanying meds) over arthritis!

    Toe arthritis

Absolutely right - I totally agree! Gout is incapacitating - arthritis, PITA!

    Toe arthritis

I'll be curious as to what the Dr. says - and what actions you can take (other than ibuprofen). I'd love to know what the do's and don'ts are for it!

    Toe arthritis

Having had both gout and big toe arthritis, I can say in my experience, there's no mistaking gout! The pain from the toe arthritis is not in the same class. I'm fighting it now - haven't come up with a solution yet. I'm not looking forward to going back to shoes with the weather change!

How long can you leave home and leave it empty?

It should be a DIY - basically you're unscrewing one hose and replacing with a new one (after turning off the water, obviously!). Easiest thing would be to take the existing one to the store with you to make sure you get the right one!

How long can you leave home and leave it empty?

We had no idea that there were rats around - we were just used to using our blacklight flashlight to check for scorpions. Haven't seen any snakes near our place - knock on wood!

How long can you leave home and leave it empty?

A Phoenix tale of woe We have a condo in Phoenix that can sit empty for several months. We noticed that the toilets got dry, but didn't think that much about it - until we had a rat come up the toilet! He chewed the bottom of the seat to get out. When we got there and discovered this, we...

    Any Quicken 2013 users?

I went ahead and bit the bullet a month or two ago when Costco had a rebate. The upgrade went fine for me - it fixed the problem that I was having with 2010 where it wouldn't update one of my stocks, and I've had no problems with updating either my stocks or my banking/investment transactions...

    Finally trying Quicken (2013)

Costco has a $20 off coupon for Quicken Deluxe or Home/Business, starting tomorrow. Their price for Deluxe was $46.99 before the coupon, so at that price I'm going to go ahead and update my sunsetting 2010. I live and die by Quicken, so I guess I have no choice!
