    It's Wednesday weigh ins! 2007-2022

I have been absent for 4 years, since I retired at age 52. But now I'd like to jump back in! I am a 56 year old man weighing 234 lbs. I have cut weight by 11 pounds since Sept. My goal is 210... Sent from my iPad using Early Retirement Forum

    Are you retired?

I retired at age 52. That was four years ago.Wonderful feeling. I'm happy not to dread Sunday jafternoon, my weeks are marked by Sunday morning church attendance. Yeah! I spend much less money than pre retirement and travel a lot more. Praise God! Sent from my iPad using Early Retirement Forum

    5 biggest ER surprises

Thanks for the summary. I retired almost three years ago and experienced the same five things... Plus, if I am honest, I would add that I am adjusting to having too much time around my wife of 35 years. hope to work through it... Sent from my iPad using Early Retirement Forum

Looks like I am going back to work

The best thing about early retirement is that you can choose to do what you want to do. Go for it for as long as it still interests you and stimulates. Congratulations on finding such a gig!

    I did it!

Congratulations! I pulled the cord myself last year at age 52. My withdrawal rate is more like 3.5%, and I feel comfortable. So I am sure you will too. It takes some getting used to, being home with DW 24/7. but it is mostly good and beats the heck out of going to w*rk every day as a wage...

    17 reasons to be optimistic

I love the optimism! We are certainly blessed to be born at this point in history. Too bad the only negative predictions and spin sell media stories. It is nice to see this summary of good news versus the Good O'l Days.

Eight working days left for me. I received an e-mail yesterday from megacorp advising me that the deadline for submitting my annual professional development plan is approaching. I had the pleasure of hitting the "delete" button! I now get to enjoy the fact that I will be saying goodbye to...

Less than 2 years to go !!!

Joe, Welcome and congratulations! I agree with not telling folks at work about your retirement plans. I did not want everyone to know about my plans either. I started my trek to FIRE five years ago. Then two years ago I posted my targeted FIRE date inside my slave cube at Megacorp. The posted...

36 days to go! The good ole countdown calendar says 36 days to go, then Freedom. Yesterday Megacorp reorganized my Department again. Layoffs, 50% more work and responsibility for survivors, really horrible stuff. So glad I will be out. At the same time, I feel bad for the good people that I...

    Help me defeat Dr. Evil

REWahoo, Thanks for the follow up. I have two 401k plans that I need to tap in order to bridge the gap between 52 (now) and 62 (SS). Looks like I need to roll them into a low cost IRA and then take SEPP. Too bad a 55 year old retiree gets a break, but a 52 year old does not. :(

    Help me defeat Dr. Evil

Ed, Can you clarify the difference between the two withdrawal strategies, please. Is there a 10% penalty for withdrawal from a 401k at 55?

Someone please confirm that I can retire!!!

Congratulations! As long as your spending needs are around $80k/yr or less, you are golden! I would feel free to start the next phase of my life and pull the cord right away. Run Firecalc to build your confidence!

I have never been fond of being a Worker Bee. On April 29, I will definitely be ready for a name change. Does anyone have a suggestion for a new name? REWahoo has suggested Ex Worker Bee. Any others?:)

Chuckanut, For me the agrivation about corporate BS was at its worst just before I made my final decision to leave. Now, I just endure what I continue to see with three thoughts... 1. I won't need to put up with this BS much longer. 2. I don't need to care about it anymore. 3. This all confirms...

BellBarbara, Nice that you got the extra time. Hope the severance package is all you expect. Are you going in to the office for the next 60 days? I have set my last day as 4/27. I think I will need to show up until then, except for some planned vacation. However, now that my retirement is out...

Hurray for severance pay! I knew that I wanted/expected to take early retirement in 2012. I had tentatively set 2/10/12 as my preferred date. But as I got closer to 2/10, I was not quite at the asset "number" that I have been targeting since I got "serious" about FIRE in 2005. However, by 2/1, I...

    Work til you drop

Articles like this just make me shake my head. They focus on making more and spending more. That mentality is driving overconsumption, poor health and broad dissatisfaction in the USA. The question should be "How much is enough?". Unfortuntely, cutting back never lined the pockets of financial...

    Sweet, sweet deal

Congratulations on the GREAT deal for semi-retirement. Also great affirmation of how much you are valued at your j*b. This should give you a rely good feel for retirement, while adding some to the financial cushion (which never hurts). Happy day!
