Not So Fast-Here We Go Again

I assume the vast majority of people on this board are in the over 60 demographic. We SHOULD be concerned....particularly if we're overweight, have metabolic syndrome/type II diabetes, high BP, etc. Hunkering down is what we're supposed to be doing (as is yours truly). Young healthy people...

What ICU doctors have learned about COVID-19

Well, I've seen other anecdotal evidence of efficacy summarily dismissed by people on this board. This article offered zero retrospective evidence...or even specific anecdotal evidence...so how can it be trusted? The science, you know.

What ICU doctors have learned about COVID-19

Maybe there are double blind, randomized studies that suggest the above interventions have proved efficacious. The weren't quoted. Maybe there are retrospective studies that would at least suggest correlation. They weren't quoted either.

What ICU doctors have learned about COVID-19

Most of the lessons seem to be what didn't work. Not much to be optimistic in terms of success stories.

Not So Fast-Here We Go Again

It's hard to compare an out of the way country like New Zealand (population 4.9 million) with the United States (325 million). The US is an international hub for worldwide travelers....NZ, not so much. I would also be skeptical of the China numbers.

I Despise the USA Tax System SO Much

Try making sense of tax laws related to MLP taxation (K-1's, etc). I guarantee you there isn't anyone in the IRS who has a clue either.

    Glutathione Deficiency and Covid

I'm popping my 2x day capsules of NAC....as well as trying to get my share of sunshine for Vit D (supplement in winter). Anything one can do to give our immune systems a boost might help give you a better chance of avoiding a bad outcome if you get the virus.

One takeaway from the pandemic ...

My father is in a memory care facility in KY, and they did a fantastic job of locking down visitors well before most in government and business started lock downs....as well as putting in procedures for employees who deal with residents. Don't believe they've had a single case yet....keeping...

    COVID-19 Shutdown Exit Strategy?

I wouldn't give up hope...I feel the same way sometimes. We have the best minds in the world working on this problem, and I'd bet within a few months there will be a breakthrough that mitigates the worst outcomes. I've been watching the antibody therapy work that shows real potential...maybe...

    COVID-19 Shutdown Exit Strategy?

Yes, I agree he is a very impressive guy...I watched the whole video...believe it was on some program called the People's Pharmacy? I was just a little deflated by the "Remdesivir for the Treatment of COVID-19-Preliminary Report" dated 5/22 in the NEJM. The final paragraph said "However...

    COVID-19 Shutdown Exit Strategy?

Just a little too convenient for me. Why couldn't both be done...continue the study while simultaneously getting the logistics underway. In God we trust...all others bring data.

    COVID-19 Shutdown Exit Strategy?

I hope he's right, but it's a stretch to say it will reduce deaths just because he says so. Whatever happened to doing the science?

    Sweden’s “Bold Experiment?”

With all due respect, I stand by my comments. When you shut down an economy, it has a cascading effect that reduces GDP, puts more people out of work, and increases the likelihood of business failures. It has been shown those negative economic effects also affect the health and welfare of...

    Sweden’s “Bold Experiment?”

I can't find any data that supports your statement. What a concept. Shutting down food production, manufacturing, service industries is the road to economic success!

    Vitamin D might help

In our culture where symptomatic handling of disease via powerful, expensive pharmaceutical drugs (with the requisite nasty side effects) is the rule, we don't hear enough about the evidence that macronutrients and anti oxidants like Vitamin D, C, NAC, etc. play a critical role in keeping us...

    Sweden’s “Bold Experiment?”

I wonder how many lives were saved by keeping hospitals open for other medical needs, and not crashing their economy.

What was your COVID news for the day?

Just a few details on this study. 1. It was a retrospective meta study that was not randomized and had no control group. Confounding factors, and where patients were in the disease state weren't taken into consideration. It is unclear if zinc was given in many studies, which is the whole...

Poll: Are You Ready To Return To Your Favorite Dine In Restaurant?

We have a terrific local seafood house, locally owned...smart management. They waited a couple weeks before reopening to make sure they got the new protocols down pat. DW and I are both over 60 with no known underlying health issues...but we're going to see a few more cards before going...

Plausible Cause for Severe Cases of Covid

NAC is a precursor to glutathione, which is the body's master antioxidant. There is some evidence that it has anti thrombotic properties as well, as the evidence is mounting that some COVID deaths are related to coagulation.

What is Going to Happen With Sports?

Young, fit professional athletes are at an insignificant risk for a severe outcome from COVID-19. Several have tested positive, to great fanfare, but I'm not aware of a single one that's had a difficult time with it. Older coaches and officials are a different story. Older fans with health...

    Coronavirus Antibody Testing sites

I just did some investigation myself...you're correct. How frustrating is it to not get a simple straight answer on how much a blood test will cost? It's like trying to find the holy grail.

Testing and Contact Tracing - What Do We Need?

Well, I'd recommend watching it...he's a Stanford Medical Professor who's been on the cutting edge of antibody testing. His MLB study yielded less than 1% infected based on antibody testing, which is less than other studies. --He doesn't believe large scale contact tracing is feasible given...

    COVID mortality dynamics NHS study

Interesting data...thanks for sharing. I am curious as to why you would say it isn't "predictive." Seems like 17MM observations is a huge sample size that would be statistically significant in predicting future outcomes.
