    Possible legislation re: ACA cliff

Helicoper money Updated my application and picked the lowest cost Silver plan. It was only $30 a month more than my previous Bronze. Additional benefit, deductible went from $4250 to $1500. They carried over my expenses from the Bronze plan, I've already met the Silver plan annual...

    Vaccine Trials

What does it say? What does it mean? I haven't looked at every covid thread so I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed. Frequently I'm seeing covid vaccine efficacy rates touted in the 90 percentile range. At first blush, percentages like that sound wildly successful. But...

how can a windows 7 only person do taxes

^^^^^This Am running Virtualbox (free) on Linux Mint. Created a Win10 container, downloaded Win10 (free) from the evil MS site and installed into that container. Activated Win10 with the key ($10) purchased online from a scraped windows machine. After tweaking Win10 to my specs, gracefully...

Cataract Surgery - A Blessing or Curse

I had no idea that cataract surgery could correct amblyopia. Is that typical? I'm 20/700 with amblyopiain in my left eye so I know what that's like.

I’m going to throw out my old underwear - a New Year’s Resolution!

Tighty-Whities. Ack! Was working with a buddy splitting firewood when the splitter developed a leak spraying hydraulic fluid all over the play. Shut the machine down and set about to repair the leak. Said buddy left and returned with a shopping bag full of used underwear. Ack! I excused...

    Paranormal Experiences?

I swear this is a true story. Years ago DW and I lived in a small rental in a Bellevue Washington neighborhood while we were building our "retirement" home further out of town. One dark and very rainy morning I loaded up the 4Runner with tools for the day and placing a dry towel on the rear...

Start of the Real Estate slump?

I smiled at that remark. Somebody's cow wandered into our yard this morning and I had to make several calls to neighbors find out who she belonged to. I think I'm in flyover country too. Oh and yeah, the real estate market is hot here too.

    What We're Making

Thanks! What was especially satisfying was to have worked on it with my teenage grandson.

    What We're Making

Some dabble in oils. I dabble in concrete Formed up and then poured a board-formed concrete retaining wall last week. Today stripped the forms and cut off the form ties. The forming was definitely old-school, rough-sawn lumber, plywood and 2x4 wallers but also used a new type of threaded...

    Keep your car battery charged!

We've been driving less since the onset of the [-]zombie apocalypse[/-] pandemic. DW's Tahoe battery wasn't holding a charge. Isolated it to a vampire draw from the stereo. Temporary fix was to remove the "accessory" fuse. Well that caused the turn signal "clicker" to stop working. Turns out...

Users absolutely hate the new Firefox web browser

"Mozilla is beginning to roll out a new version of its Firefox browser for Android devices and users have not been impressed so far. As part of a phased transition, Firefox 79 was pushed to a selection of Android devices on August 20 and, with it, a host of bugs and unexpected UI changes...

    AC powered bluetooth speakers

Posting an update. Installation was delayed because I underestimated the amount of speaker wire needed. Installed and sounds great. That little 100-ish watt Bluetooth amp puts out more than enough power for my needs. I just leave the amp turned on. So nice to step into the shop, launch...

Made it 5 months without getting Covid-19

How do you know that? If you want to say that you've had no Covid19-like symptoms in that time period, well okay I get that. But in the absence of testing how can you say with confidence that you don't now nor have you ever had Covid19? EDIT: oops, see others have posted similar point...

    AC powered bluetooth speakers

I appreciate the feedback. Decided to go with four, wired (non-bluetooth), 6.5", in-ceiling, 250w, 8ohm, 2-way, low-end speakers. The ceiling is rocked but I still have open access to the shop attic. I'll build enclosures to cover the speaker backs protruding in the attic and run 14g wire back...

    AC powered bluetooth speakers

I'll definitely look into wifi speakers. Initially the music source will be an otherwise abandoned android smart phone. Have plans for partitioning a "clean room" in that larger space and will resurrect from mothballs my old amp and CD player -- yeah, hopelessly old school.

    AC powered bluetooth speakers

I've completed the construction of my 1920 sqft workshop  but now realize that I didn't make any accomodation for a sound system. I'm in the market for bluetooth speaker(s). I still have easy access to the attic and AC power. The ceiling and walls are rocked and the floor is concrete...

    Odd Things You Have Noticed

    What's next for hoarding?

Participated in a cattle auction yesterday. There were NO feeder cattle to be had. "Feeder cattle" are 700-plus pound critters destined for the feedlots and then the grocery stores. Typically there is an abundant supply this time of year. Apparently producers are holding out for higher prices
