    Cataract Surgery Options

I had option c done 2 weeks apart. While I waited for the 2nd eye surgery, I removed the corrective lens from the glasses for my 1st eye. Something must be done when 1 eye is done. Using contact lenses was an option, but I didn't want to take a risk of infection. I am very happy ...money well spent.

What would happen if one ran out of $ later in life?

I like backup 2 -Living in other state or country. I used similar ideas, when I worried about my wife passing 1st. There are senior centers, where you can eat $2 lunch all week long. Warm food and someone to talk to can go a long way. My worst fear, when we retired, was going back to w*rk!

Poll:next change in Federal Funds Rate

I voted increase...after a pause. Inflation is sticky for sure and I don't talk about the cost of lumber. I just don't see 99 cent menus coming back.

Is The Carnage Mostly Over For Bond Funds?

+1 Totally, as it was said, fund is buying and selling all the time. Maybe shifting their position to longer term bonds when they see rates are going lower? I am done with bond funds for a while, it is easier buying T-bills with auto roll at Fidelity. It is new to me, we shall see ?

Soft landing or hard landing for 2023?

Bear market continues into 2023 +1 Going into 2022 I expected correction and we got 'bear' market, so 2023 may be full of bad news also. We don't have a clue what is going on in China, etc

Whats the best age to take SS?

It is only 8 years +1 Looking back at 72, it seems like small detail. We took ours at 62, so we would have a steady income to pay the bills. The Great Resesion was not helping our retirement and living off the interest. Zero interest rates will steal income from you if they come back. Life is...

    Hiccup in Electronic Banking

I have a regular problem with Quicken screwing up Chase accounts. It usually happens after the software update. It is very painful to find which transaction got lost...it could be year or more. Anyway I keep daily backups for this so when I discover that my account doesn't balance any more, I...

Talked to 2 Retired Neighbors .. They didn't pay off mortgage, but both have pensions

Well, I got out of California munis and didn't renew CDs; because interest rates were going up. Oops that didn't work out. So here I am stuck with very low interest rate. It is going to work out when we have a correction [emoji38]

Talked to 2 Retired Neighbors .. They didn't pay off mortgage, but both have pensions

Paid off at zero interest rates +1 Cash is paying 0.5%, why would we pay 3% for mortgage. So we are in no debt in retirement camp. It came in handy when moving out of California. We bought a new house with mortgage, planning to pay it off after selling our CA house. Lot less pressure that way.

    Thinking of retiring and scared

+1 We took SS at 62. It helped me with no steady income worries since the 0 interest rates are killing the old idea of 'live off interest'. Most of our basic expense is covered now. Health insurance is an other story, I hope you have that covered until 65. Having the house paid off was very...

    Time to reset the clocks

We snow bird in AZ, so no time change for us. I really like it. This year I noticed the time change for everyone else, since our daughter moved to Alabama. She calls at different time now. It takes my body one week to adjust to new time otherwise. I think they should get rid of it.

Zoom Has Reminded Me How Much I Hate Conference Calls

I like using Skype to stay in touch with my brother. It's easy to use as a video phone. But our kids and grand kids will not have it. They wish we would get iPhones, like everyone else, so we could FaceTime. Pressure was great...we started using zoom and it is all better for now. Skype is...
