Hurricane "Ian" may be heading for us here in Florida

For those whose homes were flooded there is also mold to contend with, as reported yesterday in the New York Times. Many reports of looting as well.

    New Variant Vaccine

Reported on my local news this morning, flu season this year is expected to be worse than the last couple years, based on the Australian season so far which is ahead of ours. They also speculated flu may have been less prevalent recently due to covid precautions. I had a high dose flu shot and...

Hurricane "Ian" may be heading for us here in Florida

Heard from DB on Merritt Island this morning. No problems, nothing going on except part of an already rickety old fence blew down. Said eye of the storm was over him right then and 37 mph winds expected thereafter. No power outages or flooding on the island.

    New Variant Vaccine

Thanks skipro33 for the info! I had tried to look up the strengths of Moderna vs Pfizer but didn't have as much luck as you. I had no side effects to speak of with my 3 Pfizer covid shots (1 was a booster). With the fourth, Moderna booster shot, I felt ill for the first time afterward---but...

    New Variant Vaccine

I just scheduled an appointment at Walgreen's for the new Moderna bivalent booster and a high-dose flu vaccine. For Sept. 8. It has been 5 months since my last booster. I wouldn't mind waiting a little longer for both of these, but had heard the Moderna in particular might be in short supply...

    Downsizing

My long time apartment is 450 sq feet and I still have too much junk! :) Do have a storage area in the basement but it is pretty limited too. Working on keeping the clutter down is a never-ending project!

    Downsizing

Around here there are lots of Little Free Library boxes for books and CDs, and the online exchange group Free Cycle for other things. Not for huge quantities obviously.

Yes, so far, so good, Katsmeow! You are getting through this. My aunt says the same thing happens to her iPad posts all the time---very frustrating.

    Another Cataract Surgery Thread

Following with great interest as I expect to have cataract surgery sometime next year. Am severely nearsighted and have worn monovision contacts for at least 15 years. I spend many hours per day reading on my computer, and also books. The freedom from glasses is wonderful and I would hate to...

review of Time Restricted Eating studies

I second this endorsement of the excellent Cronometer. Have used it for many years to track my daily nutrient and calorie intake. That and intermittent fasting (time restricted eating) have both been tremendously beneficial to my health and happiness.

Product shortages in your area ?

Odd shortages on the shelves of my local Kroger store. In the past these were seldom and quickly remedied, but now often persist week after week. Large bags of frozen green beans---this at Trader Joe's also--, the store brand of brown and confectioner's sugar, and more. Prices are up overall.

    Influenza is here

Had the high dose flu shot Sept. 20. No side effects. Earlier than I like, but they were already out of it in some places. But the other senior shot, Fluad with adjuvant, is good too. Last March I got Influenza B despite having had a flu shot, after close contact with a family member who had...

FDA Approves Booster Shot for People with Weakened Immune Systems

Got my Pfizer booster 2 days ago. Mild side effects including joint pain and a stiff sore neck. With the first 2 injections had only swollen tender lymph glands under my ear on the side where I got the shot. That might be developing now, too. All well worth it!

FDA Approves Booster Shot for People with Weakened Immune Systems

My Pfizer booster is scheduled for this Friday at my nearby neighborhood CVS pharmacy. They have lots of appointments available and the whole process could not have been easier, just as a poster upthread said.

    Hurricane Ida

Yes every year as hurricane season approaches my aunt will use up everything in her freezer, knowing extended power loss is all too likely. She like so many others had to replace her fridge after Katrina. She has lived in the same house in Metairie for over 60 years! Has seen all the major (and...

    Hurricane Ida

Yes, many reasons for not evacuating. The wife of my cousin who lives in suburban Kenner just had major surgery for cancer, part of her liver removed, and is still in the hospital in NOLA. My 91-yr old aunt lives in suburban Metairie and went to stay with my other cousin who lives on the North...

I have family in the NOLA and Atlanta areas. Was advised this morning by cousin in Atlanta that our relative in Baton Rouge is ok. However he is unable to text our other family in NOLA, assumes that cell towers are down. They do have generators and are resourceful, are old hands at this and...
