Thankfully, I Got Stopped by a Cop

I've heard that one of the most valuable returns on investments is a donation to the Police Officer's Guild and/or the local DARE program (with accompanying bumper-sticker application). Marine Corps stickers also work well. Personally, I go with the Grateful Dead sticker and drive EXTRA SAFE.

    Changes in Expenses after FIRE

So I've read all the articles/threads talking about differences in expenses for before- and after- retirement. E.g. health insurance/care goes way up, mortgage is paid off (ideally). I'm curious to know what the board members' personal experiences were. I'm somewhat planning that whatever drop...

Creative ways to pump up the compensation?

I'd get some data from glassdoor.com and make sure your expectations of what the job entails match up with your salary expectations, then have the same conversation with the new firm. In the past I have successfully negotiated an offer to cover a similar gap (they offered 70K, I bluffed and...

    If You Can't Win--Cheat?

Do they allow you to short and/or buy derivatives? If so, you could team up with a buddy and make polar opposite bets on high-volatility stocks, then split the prize.

    The 10 year plan

Thanks for all the great advice! WRT debt, indeed one of the first big decisions we made when we came to this conclusion was to refi our house to a 15 year fixed @3.75%. The only other debt we have is a 2% student loan that I tend to mentally write-off as a minor nuance. Both interest rates...

    The 10 year plan

Hi there. My wife and I are in our mid-30s (36 and 35) with a 9 year old son. We've recently come to the realization that it's time to switch gears from a focus on seeking satisfaction through career challenges, etc to a focus on "where's the exit door to this rat race?" It's been a long...
