FL Retirement Communities on the water?

Thanks. That general area is one I intend to check out. I have stayed on Sanibel and Captiva on vacations, and the Punta Gorda - Cape Coral - Port Charlotte area is one I intend to investigate more fully. Since I Fly Fish primarily more interested in Inshore areas.

Was that the quickest correction or what ?

Worked out great for me, of course I am an un-repentant market timer and a sometimes day trader so I look for pull backs all of the time, its what allowed me to ER in the first place. After last several days, actually almost 100% in cash....(till the next oppty <g>)

My heart cries early retirement, my head is confused

Be real sure that your 401K plan will allow you to take tax penalty free withdrawals before age 59 1/2. I am so glad I had enough cash planned to last until 59 1/2 hits (I am 59 now), because my 401K plan had so many rules that it was virtually useless to stay in the plan until 59 1/2 (I was 56...

Who Obamacare has helped the most

Not sure it has yet... I early retired in 2012 (age 56) and had Cobra coverage that lasted until 12/30/2013, so I was hopeful that the ACA would assist in finding reasonable priced coverage starting in Jan 2014, but the most reasonable coverage I could find on Healthcare website (when it...

FL Retirement Communities on the water?

Starting to look at possible retirement communities in FL, and wondered if anyone has suggestions? Looking for less than 400K places if possible, but my number one requirement is someplace which offers boat dock access for residents on Salt Water, preferably on the Gulf side of Florida...

Purchased a squirrel Baffel After several years of trying to prevent squirrels from stealing all of the bird seed from my feeder, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a baffle to prevent the pesky squirrels from climbing up the bird feeder pole and it absolutely works!! I have had it for...

    Which ereader do you prefer?

We have 2 e-ink Kindles, and a kindle Fire and truthfully, have not bought one paper book since I have become "kindleized". Only problem i have occassionally had, is a few books (even some "best sellers") are not always converted to kindle format correctly, but has been only a minor problem -...

56 and looking to retire in 2012

Thanks to both of you on Firecalc. On health care, I don't have questions yet, but sure I will, although I have been saving into a HSA for some years, and my current plan is to continue that approach for some years with a high deductable HSA policy, along with continued deductable contributions...

Just joined this community a few days ago,and look forward to reading and absorbing all the advice, really great posts here! My original intent as a teenager who read the WSJ cover to cover was to make the first million and retire by 26. Plan B however was the more practical route of...
