A Friend in need , how can I help

Tough love time. 1. Your broke friend wants your money. Period. Full stop. He doesn't want advice. 2. Your broke friend does not (and will not) do anything to get himself out of this mess. 3. Your wife and your other classmate are correct. Listen to them. 4. No amount of money you ever...

Activity might be the most important thing.

I'm so glad I watched this short video. It turns out that in retirement I am actually an excellent apex predator, and not the "lazy, unproductive bum" several generations of my New England Puritan ancestors would see me as. What a relief!! And now, back to more feet-on-the-couch...

Forum Update - We're back! Ask your questions here.

IIRC, there used to be a "Search This Thread" option. I can't find it now - am I missing something? I wanted to search the "What New Series Are You Watching" for any references to a particular show, and I had to search "all forums" using the name of the show. Luckily the results returned a...

He doesn't look intimidated at all! Looks like he had a ball. Did he even want to come home when you got back? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

what do you think of the new format?

Private messages are still there - they are called "conversations." Hat tip to Janet, who explained this to me! Click on the envelope icon next to your user name at top of screen. This menu will drop down: To view your old PMs, click on "show all." To send a new PM, click on "start a new...

Forum Update - We're back! Ask your questions here.

Thank you very much! And thanks to all of you who did the hard work of updating the site! I'm a little curmudgeonette who doesn't do well with change, but it's making me use my few remaining brain cells to figure out how it works and what goes where, so that's a good thing! :)

It's very inconsistent for me. Sometimes it defaults to post #1, and sometimes it takes me to the last post. I'm hoping this gets worked out soon - or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Forum Update - We're back! Ask your questions here.

No matter what thread I open, it just sits on post #1. It no longer takes me to the first post I haven't read in the thread.

What was your happiest moment today?

I'm shopping around for a siding contractor to remove all the old (1970s) siding on my house and replace it. I met with Guy #1 on Friday. He promised to send me a quote over the weekend (his choice - I said I could wait) and so far have heard nothing from him. He acted pretty squirrely on...

How much do you spend per month on fitness?

Zero on equipment. (I bought a used treadmill 8 years ago) Zero on "fitness" clothes. Old t-shirts and shorts suffice. Two pairs of walking shoes per year. No gym memberships, classes, or personal trainer here - just good old fashioned blood, sweat, and tears! ;D

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I already had Six Feet Under in my queue. Folks in this thread keep mentioning it, so I watched the first episode tonight. I'm going to enjoy this show! It is just twisted and weird enough to hold my interest (another great "treadmill show" I think).

I finished The Diplomat last night. I enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to season two, which I believe is filming now.

shameless ask for praise for walking

That is an idiotic thing for a doctor to say, and that first PT is in the wrong line of work. Good for you for firing the first PT, and if I were you I'd dump the doctor too. After reading your history, and seeing how far you have come in just one year, I am in awe of you walking 11 miles in...

shameless ask for praise for walking

Is there any chance this person was being sarcastic? I wield sarcasm frequently, but ONLY in person, and only with a few very good friends who know me, and who share my strange sense of humor and fondness for sarcasm. I might occasionally use it on phone calls, but again, only with my close...

State Income Tax: not always perfect

My younger sister lived in Boston and worked in Cambridge for the past 40 years. She retired 18 months ago, and moved to Pittsburgh a month ago. Apparently PA doesn't tax a single dollar of any kind of retirement income. She said she moved because she couldn't afford to live in Cambridge any...

Not new, but new to me: The Diplomat on Netflix. It looks like some good escapism for daily treadmill time.

I suspect you're right, which is why I am so relieved that my nieces and nephew seem to have (so far) escaped unscathed from the family history. I hope it continues.

    Literally: Life After Fire

My job never defined me. It was a means to an end, so there was no need to "reinvent" myself in retirement. I have two purposes in retirement........ 1. Read.All.The.Books. 2. Pet.All.The.Cats. I haven't finished yet. ;D
