    Poll:How old are you?

That or 70% of people here believe they are younger than they are. Subconsciously they know their age, but they haven't looked in the mirror for a while. Haha! Seriously though, it's good to have a mix of people, early or not, they provide a lot of good info and entertainment.

    Doggy Goggles Needed

Our little Ruben has doggles. We decided that since he liked riding with his head out the window at 60 mph and his eyelids were on the verge of peeling off, we'd best do something to protect his eyes. Now he can bask in the wind as we cruise down country roads.

    Poll:How old are you?

1B, I'm on a roll! I think I'll retire early from using binary and hexadecimal systems. Today is my last day!

    Poll:How old are you?

Lol. Well that's embarrassing. I guess I get a lonely 0 on the binary comprehension scale. It's been so long since I've used it. It should have been 11011. Glad I could provide some humor!

    Poll:How old are you?

There are 10 people who understand my age. Those who do and those who don't. 1111 Or for those more literate in hex, 1C

Rolling money out of a pension

Ok, good to know. It's not worth all the trouble for $10. Thanks!

Rolling money out of a pension

But if there are weekly Ira deposits occurring, wouldn't they count?

Rolling money out of a pension

My wife worked too little time to receive credit with her pension the first year she was there. The dollar amount is just under $100. I was working on taxes and realized I should "roll" this into our Roth IRA. What are the rules we have to follow? This checked was cashed at our bank many...

    23andMe personal genetic testing

Do you feel it was worth the 99 big ones? DW and I are looking into this also. We figured it could provide some insight into family genetics as 3 of 4 of my grandparents died at a young age. All were heavy drinkers and smokers, so I don't know what long term problems lie within the family.

    Need help making savings choices

After doing a bit of reading I did confirm that I can collect my pension immediately upon termination of employment. I can take the lump some of my contributions and interest, or leave it in the account to collect the full monthly benefit. It seems that the 72t rule is not a terrible option as...

    Need help making savings choices

Is there something special that quicken does that firecalc or any other online planners can't do? I don't know anything about quicken or it's products to be honest. At this point the only material book wise that I've read is the bogleheads guide to investing, and the four pillars. I knew how...

    Need help making savings choices

I was thinking of where I got the notion that I could collect early, and it was actually from the pensions benefit calculator. It pulls numbers from my statements (the calc is specific to me) and I can plug in numbers like final average salary, year of retirement, what survivorship option I...

    Need help making savings choices

Pensions seem secure. They just had a meeting in Harrisburg about pension reform. They said they want to change the plan for new employees and potentially current employees going forward. They wanted to make it into a 401k like program. They said all earned benefits would remain untouched...

    Need help making savings choices

As DW and I sock away money for a very early retirement, we wonder if we have already put too much into tax sheltered accounts. At what point do you decide that you need more money in non sheltered accounts? Here is our situation. Ages 27 and 28. Expected retirement age 37 and 38. Yearly...

Health care insurance costs now on W-2

DW and I pay about 1300 a year, DD says a little over 18,000. I was surprised to see how much our plan actually costs. Funny thing is, we probably only cost the insurance company between 500 and 800 a year. We don't go to the doc unless there's a problem. Wish I could just take all that...

27 year old dislikes working 40 hours a week

Yeah, work isn't really so bad if I don't think about it. It's just nice to not have to work. Sometimes I think I beat myself up too much. If I look around I'm much more successful (maybe not in their eyes) and happy than the people that surround me. Maybe I need to be around more positive...

27 year old dislikes working 40 hours a week

I honestly thought I might have ADD. Just thought maybe I was hard on myself though. At what point is it a problem vs a personality? And do I want to take pills to correct it? Maybe seeing a doc wouldn't be a horrible thing. Problem is, I really wonder if they're looking out for my best...

Thanks for all your kind words and input. And same to everyone else who has commented. I look forward to the rest of my life here with all of you! It can be very lonely when you don't know anyone else who cares about retirement or their future. It's nice to share ideas with like minded people.

27 year old dislikes working 40 hours a week

We own our house outright. So no mortgage to worry about. SS disability covers not being able to work at all, what else would I need? If I was injured that I couldn't walk, I would certainly find a job that could accommodate that. By saving I mean we each contribute to our pension, max out...

27 year old dislikes working 40 hours a week

We are comfortable in that if one of us was no longer able to work, we could live the same life while still putting a small amount away for retirement. We both will also have pensions. I am already vested, she has several years to go. From this I am already eligible for disability payments...

27 year old dislikes working 40 hours a week

I could agree with the lazy thing. I just don't know what I would really like to do as a job. I've given it thought quite a few times as I have time to think while sweeping floors. I imagine once we've saved enough, I might consider other careers. For now I have security, good benefits and a...

27 year old dislikes working 40 hours a week

To be honest, my wife is probably more of a saver than I am. I'm pretty serious about it so that's saying something. We only spend half as much as we save. I could move into a higher paying position where I'm at, but I know it would result in a stressful position. Not worth it for 8% more pay.

27 year old dislikes working 40 hours a week

Starting a cleaning business isn't the worst idea. Could do it on the side until it starts to grow into something. I'm not unhappy at my job quite yet, so I'll stay on track for now. Good idea for the future though! My father did work very hard creating his business. He does deserve what he...

27 year old dislikes working 40 hours a week

Hopefully, since it is a state run pension it will be ok. They have changed the rules since I was employed, but in grandfathered in under the old rules. New rules require a higher contribution rate, and 25% smaller payout. The formula ok under is 2.5% times years worked times final 3 years...
