    This Time it's for Real

What helped is tracking expenses more carefully for the last 2 years. I also have more cushion now to absorb periodic major expenses which was a concern. (new car, home renovations, major health issues, etc)

    This Time it's for Real

Hello all: Here's an update to my original thread from August 2013. http://www.early-retirement.org/forums/f26/am-i-ready-67853.html I did leave my 25 year corporate job at the end of 2013, and had planned to semi-retire to a hobby job. Within a few months however, I took a work-at-home position...

How to draw income from accounts for expenses

I'm been debating the same thing. Psychologically, I'm more comfortable drawing from the dividends and capital gains so that's my plan. If I need more I'll take the opportunity to rebalance and sell some funds.

    Cobra cost

Yes, also a little confused based on the replies. Everything I can find online including the IRS site indicates that Section 12DD on your W2 is for the employee and employer contribution combined. From TurboTax FAQ: Box 12 amounts with the code DD signify the total cost of what you and your...

    Cobra cost

Thanks Michael. I did find a section on my W2 (Section 12DD) that shows the cost of employer sponsored health coverage. I'm wondering if I have to add my contribution amount on top of this.

Thanks All for the replies. I'll look into the Roth conversions on my 401K up to the 15% tax bracket and the potential for ACA subsidies. I still have a lot to learn in terms of maximizing tax efficiencies.

    FIRE-inspiring quotes

What does a man need-really need? A few pounds of food each day, heat and shelter, six feet to lie down in-and some form of working activity that will yield a sense of accomplishment. That’s all-in the material sense. And we know it. But we are brainwashed by our economic system until we end up...

    Am I Ready?

Hello All. My first post here after studying the site for quite a while. After 30+ years in the corporate world, I really need a change, so I'm building up my courage to announce my resignation in a few weeks. I've run the Firecalc numbers and all looks good, but it's still nerve-wracking and...
