    Road Trips 2024

Do you all use a RV or passenger vehicle for your road trips? We had a travel trailer but since sold it and are trying to line of a west coast trip for spring but NOT using a recreational vehicle just our SUV.

Hey y'all...retired in the Deep South.

Congratulations, John! Hope you’ll continue to share how life in retirement is. We will be joining you this year and we are really excited. We have no pension, but will have SS in 4-6 years, so living exclusively on our investments and maybe some contract work (I call it dabbling in work)...

Sharing 23 years of Frugal Retirement

My sincere condolences to you, and your entire family. I have read, and reread this particular post in which your father shared his wisdom, life experiences, and insights into retirement. It is by far my favorite. I am sorry he will no longer post here, but I hope that you will.

Just retired at 62 and I hope I saved enough??

I don’t know whether to congratulate you, or say that you are the ultimate showoff!!! Seriously, congratulations! And by the way, $250,000 annual living expenses? We could live on that for 6-years! I would offer this advice: retire now! —Nomad

    Mental 'readiness' for ER

Thank you for sharing your story, and starting what I think is one of the most beneficial threads I’ve read on ER.org. I have been stuck in the OMY loop for several years. While I benefit from the added $$s and delayed draw downs, I can assure you that I have paid a price for it in terms of...

    OMY at a time

+1! I am celebrating my 3rd OMY and must say that Street's point, "In the end that company really doesn't care there is another person behind the curtain to do the job", hit home with me. --Nomad

46 And Planning to Retire in Late 2016 - Am I Ready?

We are in very similar circumstances...to include assumptions, but I am nearly 10 years older. We started looking at ER in 2013, and assumed an annual spend of $36,000. Many on this forum cautioned us, and rightfully so. We have learned since then, that the key for us is living at the level...

I am crazy to think I can retire at 48?

Evergreen - I too am in the same boat. To hell with what others think. Basic formula someone wote on this post is: do you have more money than expenses? Yes! And can you do something else if you want to work (even part-time)? Yes! Go for it! -- Nomad

    Income If You Retire Today

What does this estimate produce for an annual percentage draw or is the question irrelevant? This is a great thread - been very helpful!

    Income If You Retire Today

Great point! OMY is eating me up, along with many others I suspect. The calculators give me some comfort, but then the market shifts, or I revert back to the OMY argument. Crazy! -- Nomad

    Vanguard Question

I am sincerely grateful for the input, and responses to the original question. I have been traveling, and my youngest adult daughter had a medical procedure, so I am late responding. These posts are very helpful, and though there are some differing opinions, it helps point me in directions...
