How much do you spend per month on fitness?

If you're interested, you can buy a Kombucha "mother" (Cultures for Health sells them online) and make your own kombucha. My DH has had kombucha going for years. I don't like the stuff myself, but I do make a water kefir that I add lemon to and it tastes like fizzy lemonade. It makes a quart...

Good friend just died of Pancreatic Cancer

What a sad, difficult time! I am just so very sorry, Harllee. It sounds like she had alot of people supporting her and I hope you all can support each other during this surreal period. It's stories like these that remind me what a miracle each day is that we all get to wake up and get out of bed...

Need to limit my account viewing.

I check our Fidelity account several times a week. I just find it interesting. I rarely act on anything and when I do it is planned over a period of time, not reactive. I reconcile our bank statements and cc accounts every 2-3 weeks, sometimes it gets stretched to 2 months! But I do reconcile...

    Electric Vehicles - Models Discussion

Ha, well this people did. I love our Tesla Model Y and so glad our son talked it up so much. It took a bit of getting used to but it is a joy to drive. It isn't our only car and I understand not wanting to only have an EV at this point. (Though our son does...) Different strokes for different...

I have COVID and need help. I am in panic mode

If you have OCD and/or anxiety, then it makes sense that you are feeling a bit more hypersensitive to your symptoms. Doing the calming exercises that I hope a doctor or therapist has taught you is a great thing to focus on now. Slow, soft breathing, warm baths with Epsom salt, watching something...

Diaries, Journals, Logs - do you keep them, and why and how?

I kept journals off and on growing up but 11 years ago I bought a 5 year journal from Levenger. Well actually I bought it 12 years ago and didn't use it b/c I didn't know "how" to use it/ the focus, etc. I laugh at myself now. What I love about this journal is that it gives you 5 ample sized...

Where to travel alone but still be very safe?

To add to my post, we did stay in the historic district in an airbnb so I can't speak to the other parts of Savannah. The location was perfect and easy to navigate by foot. We went the total tourist route on that trip and it was easy and enjoyable.

Where to travel alone but still be very safe?

My experience was completely different in Savannah. I was with my DH but I told my him that Savannah was definitely a place I'd feel comfortable traveling to alone and I don't say that about many places. I wouldn't go out after dark alone, but I wouldn't do that anywhere that I wasn't...

    Solo Vacations

I'm sorry; it must be very hurtful and disappointing. Sounds like you talk with one another but I'm wondering how well you two actually communicate? It seems like there's a lot "unsaid"... I'm wondering if perhaps that post retirement is providing "too much" togetherness for your wife? You...

    Poll: Dune Part 2

I have never seen Dune I but we face timed with our sons today (28 and 30) and they both couldn't say enough about Dune II. So DH and I are going to stream the first one on tv tonight. We shall see...

I'm gonna give it all away...

Stormy, I have no experience with either one of these organizations but know both to be excellent. Mainly, though, I just want you to know that I am thinking of you. I'm sorry for your news but am hoping that you overcome whatever it is.

Do you still care about the state of the world or just focus on your own life?

In the book, Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals, Oliver Burkeman somewhat addresses this issue. My takeaway is that he would say something like (paraphrased) "the climate already IS screwed, things are already bad and accepting it gives you the freedom to not take it all on, to not...

    Have you used Agoda?

Yes, I saw that. Reviews bounce around but more recent ones suggest communication issues between Agoda and the hotels. That said, I'd still be interested to hear if anyone has had an actual experience using them - when that was, how it went, etc. Thanks!

    Have you used Agoda?

In planning our travel to London in May, I came across a sight called Agoda that was offering a crazy good deal on a hotel that someone had recommended. Has anyone ever used Agoda? I'm always leary of a good deal like this but drawn to it too! It does say you can cancel (free) so I'm also...

    Chelsea Flower Show?

DH and I are planning a trip to London in May to go to the Chelsea Flower Show. I've not been to London in 38 years and so it's like a whole new adventure. We'll only be at the flower show one day with the other days exploring London and thinking of a couple of days where we take day trips...

    What have you read recently?

Currently reading (listening to) Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman, subtitled Time Management for Mortals. The subtitle, I think, is unfortunate because it gives out the vibe that it's another time management book. It's really more of an exploration of the concept of how we view and "use"...

Eye popping spending and overwhelmed about how to cut down to a reasonable lifestyle

I just happened upon this old thread and am impressed with the changes you and your wife had made. Would love to hear an update. Any small changes deserve celebrating and you had made some considerable ones up to your last post.

    Trust or Not?

That is interesting and we were steered away from trusts as well (we are also in Texas). We have beneficiary designations with non-retirement accounts but that's as far as we've gotten. I need to look into that for our properties. What about retirement accounts? I'm afraid I've not explored that...
