    55+ Community resale values

Agreed. I think the HUD policy is the minimum requirement.

    55+ Community resale values

In The Villages, minors under the age of 19 can stay for a maximum of 30 days. Over age 19, it’s indefinite.

    55+ Community resale values

There is sometimes a lack of understanding of the “over 55” rule. In general, at least 80% of the units in such communities must have at least one occupant age 55 or older. I live in The Villages, and many houses have occupants under 55, most notably disabled adult children or adult children...

    Spinal Stenosis

I thought I had sciatica, but my physical therapist told me that the spinal stenosis was affecting a nerve on my right side. She advised stretches (the yoga pose called “pigeon” works a treat) and it has really helped.

I have had it for 20 years. Physical therapy and yoga take care of it for me.

Poll: Should I stay or should I go now

How sure are you that the housing market in your area will not collapse in the next two years? If you are sure your house’s value will be maintained, stay and use the two years to throttle back, monitor expenses, and formulate a plan.

What is the most awesome job you had /have?

I had two jobs that were awesome in different ways. The first was for a large firm that liked having experts available for media appearances. They decided I should be one. I loved the public speaking and was on every financial show you could imagine. I also co-authored the first of two books...

Has anyone considered retiring to the town you grew up in?

For me, it's become more people than place. I still have close friends from high school and college, but they have scattered to the four winds. One of the reasons we moved to this location in Florida is that we have close friends here. They linked us into their friend network. So we moved to a...

If you have spinal and balance issues, try yoga and tai chi. I have found them very helpful for both.

    Why Travel?

I can't say that. I tried to make a point of seeing the places I went on business, and I tended to be in one place for days a a time. Due to the nature of my business, I spent a lot of time on college campuses, which were generally lovely. But this is one case where I agree with Jacob of ERE...

    Why Travel?

I spent much of my professional life running through airports, and have seen all of the lower 48, and much of eastern Canada and western Europe. I would be happy to never leave Florida again. Nowadays I travel to see people, not sights.

Wellesley vs. everything else in ER

DH's IRA is in Wellesley. He's 67 and risk averse, so it seemed like a good fit for him. I am in the Vanguard 2020 fund. Over the past 5 years, his portfolio has crushed mine. I expect that mine will crush his when there's a big runup in stocks.

CFA or CFP as a retirement transitional gig ?

CFP here. If you are going to set out a shingle as a CFP in your own practice, your primary job for the first few years will be sales and marketing, not financial planning.

We're new - our plan is iffy?

In your shoes, I would not buy anything anywhere. Rent for a few years wherever you end up, until you decide you want to stay there for at least 10 years.

Wellesley & Wellington: Set it and forget it?

For a married couple, waiting for SS until age 70 for the higher earner gives an increased inflation-adjusted annuity over two lives, not one. It's quite likely that one spouse will live longer than age 83.

Wellesley & Wellington: Set it and forget it?

I am planning on having DH's IRA in Wellesley Income and mine in Vanguard Target Retirement 2020. I have higher risk tolerance than he does, and I like the Target Retirement funds' exposure to international stocks and bonds.
