Getting a new mortgage when retired.

This also may have to do with zoning/lot sizes. In my town there is a maximum single family lot size now for new builds. If the lot is too large ad the building is completely razed then the lot must be subdivided so a single home cannot use the entire lot. This just happened to a friend of...

what office software product do you use?

MS Office 2010 non-subscription. I don't care about additional/new features since my income no longer depends on bigger, better software. I've been very satisfied.

Colorado Hwy 50 CLOSED west of Gunnison

This is a bummer for us because I used to live in the area and was planning a visit back there is early summer. I guess I'll skip BM this time.

what do you think of the new format?

Although I agree with others that I'd always like more density, overall I like the format. It is very similar to others forums I frequent so I'm already used to the layout. As the saying goes, the only constant is change, and I think tis one is for the better

    Vanguard's Scottsdale office

You are a funny guy, you are. Seriously though, I'm actually in the process of transferring a couple of inherited accounts out of EJ. DM's guy was very friendly right up until he realized I wasn't keeping the money with him. Not so much anymore.

It looks like there aren't any. I think it is time for me to look at Schwab and Fido since DW said she'd like an option to meet with someone in person for account questions and transfers when I pass.

    Thoughts on Inherited IRA Withdrawals

I did a test on mine (as if DM passed last year since no RMD is due this year) and it appeared to match the number that would have been calculated using table I of Publication 590-B. I'm likely to distribute more early on because I want it gone before it affects my RMD's and DW's ACA premiums...

    Thoughts on Inherited IRA Withdrawals

This might be helpful for anyone looking at scenarios, either current or future. As always, check with a CPA for accuracy. https://inherited-rmd-calculator.web.vanguard.com/

Wow - complete disregard for decedent

Correct on the POA. I had a POA for my mom for the last decade of her life. It can be done at any time and can also be used at any time. She boasted to her friends that I never stole her money like some other people's kids did. I am very sorry for what you are going through. I'm glad you...

All in retirement and no liquidity

Another option is a HELOC if the numbers work out. I think, as others have mentioned that a 72t is the option I'd use. Information if you aren't familiar with it: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/r/rule72t.asp

I and when I'm in Scottsdale again I'm definitely going to check it out and see if I can get a tour.

OK, so I did call VG and no, there is no in-person staff available to customers at their offices. The are administration, etc. only. The bright side is that, once I worked through the maddening automated phone menus, a rep answered the phone within 20 seconds.

Wow - complete disregard for decedent

This was exactly my experience with the banks to whom I've spoken. Once I was identified as a beneficiary they gave me all kinds of information they wouldn't provide when I called the first time as an executor.

Since nobody seems to have any experience with this, yes I plan to call them. If this is actually available I might even visit (we might be in the area this year) to see what is there and report back.

    Vanguard's Scottsdale office

Sorry all, I'm probably stating this in a way that is suggesting a financial planner relationship with Vanguard. The vast majority of our accounts are with Vanguard so the name on the door is required for the information she'd need for what we are discussing. This visit to the office, if...

I get that, but I'm not looking at this for her as an advisory service, but rather as the option to have a real person walk her through the account consolidation and instruct her on how to navigate in their system at a time when she maybe misses me a bit and would like someone in person to make...

    Vanguard's Scottsdale office

I guess I'll give them a call and check on the availability of a meeting. I'd be surprised if they set up an facility in Scottsdale as just a call center and office. That would definitely not be a cost-effective location for those purposes. I'll see what they say. If that isn't an option is...

Luckily (unluckily?) we have family member experiences with both Ed Jones and Raymond James so she knows not to go anywhere near those guys. Maybe if I simplify things it won't matter. She can just leave it as is.

    Vanguard's Scottsdale office

The majority of our assets are with Vanguard and DW is less than interested in managing them. I have a binder written for her to help her should I pass away before she does, but the transition might be tough for her. One idea I had was for her to actually visit the VG Scottsdale office...

Wow - complete disregard for decedent

As noted, the OP does have the option to decline to be executrix and leave it to the court to appoint one. I think I would give that strong consideration in this case.

Wow - complete disregard for decedent

No, I didn't misunderstand. I mentioned that it was said, and it is, that families have issues when someone dies. You were the one that brought up a negative opinion about her, which I never mentioned. Please stop trying to attribute that to me and move on.
