Scuba, If I were you, I would chose Venice area. Lakewood ranch is quite far from the beach and the traffic is horrible and getting worse by the year. The Esplanade in Palmer ranch would be my choice. 10 minutes to the beach. FYI, I live in Nokomis.

While you're in North port, check out Venice. Nice downtown. Close beaches. Nice small town community feel. Not very touristy and its close to Siesta key and Sarasota(great culture) JMHO
