    NFL: 2018 Season

It's a testament to just how good the Bears D is that even with 3 picks by trubiskey, they could beat the best team in football. If trubiskey wasn't out for two weeks and coming back from injury, they could have blown them out. This win will grow them as a team, no doubt. As Nagy said after...

What is This (Found at Circus Maximus in Rome)?

It happens. When I was speaking of value, I was speaking strictly of the informational value that artifacts can provide when found in situ. The Italians, like us, probably field dozens of these return requests every year. They also probably realize that once it's removed, it's almost worthless...

What is This (Found at Circus Maximus in Rome)?

Speaking as a former cultural resource specialist, once you remove an artifact from it's source, it loses most if not all of it's provenance, and thus much of it's informational value to the larger historical context. I used to get a bunch of pottery sherds and other items returned every year...

    Comfortable or Wealthy?

With a low eight figure portfolio (or high seven depending on the market), that's where we're at. But we don't pull 4% from the portfolio. More like 1%, at most. Yes, DW and I are living below our means. Most everything gets reinvested. It's all relative, but we do feel comfortable, not 'rich'.

Directv Now or Hulu Live or ?

Have been with DirecTV Now since it's inception. Got the free AppleTV box along with the lifetime discount, and for some reason we get free HBO too. At first, we were very close to dropping it, lots of snafus, ie: buffering, freezes. But we stuck with it and they seem to have found their groove...

With this Market, most likely moving FIRE from 2020 to 2022

Should ask this question to those who retired at the beginning of the great recession. How they entered into retirement at a time like that could either put you at ease, or make you rethink your plans. I retired at the tail end of it, so benefitted from a favorable sequence risk. My feeling is...

What did you do today? 2018 version

Saturday, Nov 3. Skiied about 17" of new powder at Wolf Creek Ski area. Had to hike a bit to get to the freshies, but it was well worth it :-) One of the earlier powder days I've enjoyed.

    Tax Hit vs Asset Allocation/Re-balancing?

I have often teetered between decisions based purely on tax implications or making the best decision for strictly investment purposes. Our allocation is in the range I'm comfortable with at 65% equities, but in 2018 I finally decided to eliminate quite a few individual stock holdings that I...

Is anyone here still working only for health insurance benefits?

Or working at a specific job they hate just for the health insurance. They might choose a different job (or company) if not for that. That may be more common.

Why take a much smaller SWR than you can??

Thanks. It's probably because we have spent far less than we we could have that we reached that milestone over the last 7-8 years. It would be incredibly difficult to spend 4%. We're not wanting for anything, and as RenoJay stated, why spend on things you don't want just to reach your WR? It's...

Why take a much smaller SWR than you can??

So far, this past year we took approx .95%, or $92K from our portfolio. Primarily it comes to us in dividends (the ones that aren't reinvested), and bond interest. Frankly, it's hard to spend more. We have to make the effort. Trying...

    What do you splurge on

Ski trips & ski equipment. Camera bodies and lenses. First Class (or business) for ALL air travel now. So, to combine all those we are taking a two week ski trip to St Anton Austria (the cradle of skiing) next year. I telemark ski only, so I will be right at home where it originated :)
