Were you successful in the ACA signup

I actually put off going through the exchange as I was hoping to be approved for a private insurance plan. After jumping through hoops for that I was turned down. I then went to the healthcare.gov site with much dread and within an hour and a half had insurance. I must have hit it at just the...

Were you successful in the ACA signup

I guess I'm in the same boat as many others. I successfully?enrolled through healthcare.gov for Louisiana. I mailed my first payment to BCBS but have yet to hear from them. I will probably give them a few more days and call the number provided on the enrollment form.

Gain or Lose Weight At Retirement Start?

I've only been retired 2 months but I am surprised that I haven't lost weight. I really thought it would fall off once I stopped the stress eating and sitting at a desk all day. I'm more active and eating better ( I think ) but my weight has stayed the same. Hopefully after the holidays dh...

Apple TV vs Roku 1/2/3 vs Chromecast vs others?

We have 2 Vizio smart T.V.'s that come Wifi ready and I love them. They are really no brainers to use. We subscribe to Netflix and Amazon Prime which is almost all I watch. We also have Cable because dh is a huge football fan. If and when we can watch football on the internet Cable is history.

Update after 1 year of ER

I'm so sorry about your wife. My first husband passed away at 38, you're right you never know. I'm very glad to know that you were able to make such a great decision for yourself and your kids. Sounds to me that they have a great Dad.

    Grocery Money - Food Only

We typically spend about $6oo per month for groceries, non-food items, beer and wine. This is for 2 of us and I'm sure we could cut if we tried. This doesn't include eating out or entertaining. ETA: After I posted I realized this does contain some over lap for entertaining.

Others reactions to your Financial Independence

Our family and friends have all been very happy for our ability to retire a bit early. I'm 59 and just retired 2 weeks and dh is 62 and retired for 3 years. My dh did have a neighbor comment to him the other day, " Your wife retired? But, didn't ya'll just buy a new car"? As if retiring...

    Class of 2013

Looks like I'm joining the Class of 2013! I talked to my bosses a little over a month ago about retiring and it looked like it was going to be early 2014. Yesterday my boss told me he had told his boss that I would be leaving at the end of the month. I am soooo ready. A couple more...

    Afraid to Retire

I am also 59 and just withing the last 2 weeks started the retirement process by talking with my boss. My husband has been retired for 3 years with some occasional contract work for a month or two at a time. I have been back and forth with my own retirement decision for the last couple of years...

    His & Hers

Great question and good idea to discuss now before you both retire. We each have an equal amount of "no questions asked" money a week. We started doing that when we got married 16 years ago and works fine for us. For other purchases we usually discuss anything over about $50.

Having some trouble with this phase of life we call 'retirement"

Hi Tracy, It sounds like you quit your mega corp job because of all the BS and not strictly because you were ready to retire. If you take the new job maybe you'll love it and if not what do you have to lose? Maybe after working awhile you will be better able to make a decision regarding...

    The Class of 2014

I started feeling relief and exitement yesterday. My husband just told me I seem happier already. It's true..........I feel such a weight off my shoulders. I'm sure I'll go through a range of emotions in the days ahead but I am ready!

    The Class of 2014

Add me to the Class of 2014!!! I had the retirement talk with the President of the company today and we will be finalizing plans in the next weeks. Surprisingly, I have a feeling of loss or let down as opposed to be the excitement I thought I would feel. Maybe it's just that I've been...

    Hi, I just retired

Welcome! I always think that the advice of waiting at least a year after a major life change to make major decisions is good. Spend time dreaming about what you really want without the pressure to be in a hurry.
