    Blow that Dough 2024

Street, I thought about a Maverick. Those are really nice. I also thought about a Mazda Miata convertible, lol, and test drove one, which scratched that itch. I don’t have the knees for how low it is! On Monday, I said bye-bye to my beloved 2006 SAAB 9.3 and acquired a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan...

Anyone else NOT watch the news?

Beyond the weather forecasts, I’m honestly hard-pressed to think of ANY news story that has directly impacted my little life in the last year. How about you? Every newspaper and broadcast are full of titillating headlines and breathless reporters urging me to care about this that and the other...

    Buying a New Car

I just ordered a loaded, 2023 Mazda Miata convertible with 2,000 miles on it via the CarMax app. It’s being shipped from a Louisiana CarMax store to my local one. I doubt there’s a simpler, less stressful and more transparent way to buy cars and they take all used cars, even if you have to tow...

Anyone else NOT watch the news?

I am gradually abandoning any interest in deadlocked federal policy as a meaningful change mechanism, so the angertainment we call “news” has little appeal. Technological transformation is the dominant change force of our age, so my attention, fascination and hope for a better future is...

    First million is enough

This thread is about happiness, while the other thread was really about the power of compound interest. Both are right and enjoyable.

The first million takes the longest to achieve

+1. The first took us almost exactly 20 years of saving in stock funds in our 403bs, with matches, with higher savings rates than anyone we knew. One must be focused.

The first million takes the longest to achieve

Sure. And you can do all kinds of backtesting for free at Portfolio Visualizer. The one with the high final balance has no rebalancing. To be sure, there’s been a lot of allocation drift since 1987 and current allocation is 90/10, hence the higher volatility and higher returns. But if we...

The first million takes the longest to achieve

Here’s an 80/20 portfolio of $10,000 with annual rebalancing and one with no rebalancing. Samesies! Actually, not rebalancing was a little more volatile but ended up slightly ahead.

$15 to drive into new york city

Sounds great to me. Reducing cars also reduces the ramps, lots and spaces required to park them, pollution and noise. It’s probably a step toward rechargeable autonomous robo taxis, after the tech is worked out and scaled through market forces...

$15 to drive into new york city

Probably an interim step on the way to everyone using robo taxis, which will also eliminate the need for parking ramps, lots and spaces in congested cities.

The first million takes the longest to achieve

To the contrary, when I’ve back-tested rebalancing vs rebalancing, it doesn’t make much difference at all over long time periods. You’re the ultimate passive investor, which research shows is the smartest kind and the best at business.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Enjoying Palm Royale on Apple TV. Kristin Wig is terrific and carries it. Show is a zany peak into the life of Palm Beach society and its weird aspirations. Probably kinda true, too.

    So what am I missing?

Seems a sound strategy, especially if it lets you avoid capital gains by not selling the paper assets, though preferreds and mms may not have much in gains.

We’ve been VPAS clients since 2018 with 7 figures in their AUM. Your math seems reasonable but I have no info it.
